Applied for a checking account at Chase to take advantage of the $300 bonus and to my suprise I was denied. They cited Experian being the reason for the denial. I checked my Experian report and there is nothing negative. They just approved me for the Chase Amazon Visa yet declined for a checking account.

This is the first I heard Banks HP for opening a checking account.
Been had Chase Checking for the past 8yrs.
It was not a HP, it was a SP. But I was given a letter instantly citing Experian.
Well, stopped by a branch and I was able to open the account with no issues at all. I even got the letter confirming the $300 bonus.
Almost two years ago, I had the exact same thing happen to me. At least you got the in-branch approval!
I was approved for my Freedom in April of 2015. I bought a Chase $300 voucher on eBay for $7, and drove 90 miles to the nearest branch to apply.
Once I was there, I tried to open a checking account, and was also denied based on something in my Experian report. No HP, no reconsideration. My EX has a collection on it, but I don't know why they would deny checking based on that. My Chexsystems was clean, with zero entries (I had been with Wells Fargo for 7 years at that point).
I haven't bothered to try again, because for the most part BoA has been pretty good to me for my local checking needs. I just got nickel and dimed for a replacement fee on my debit card, but I think I can get that back from them.

Glad to hear it.
Good thing you stopped by
