Has anyone tried to use their chase debit card with a chip overseas? My credit cards I believe only chip and sig and was wondering if the debit card with a chip will work with the pin while in the UK?
Yes, it will.
I travel back to England to visit family regularly and had to get some emergency cash out one day. You do pay a fee, so I do not recommend it, but it will work with your 4 digit PIN at ATM's and with merchants.
By the way, most places take chip and sig in the UK.
Its only really unmanned stations like train tickets etc that require chip and pin. I hope you have some CC's without FTF's ![]()
I do have 2 cards without FTF's was wondering if it would work with the pin at self service machines. I'm often left waiting for an attendant to come verify my signature when I've used my other cards. I travel to Europe at least once a month so a backup is nice!I just received my chip enabled debit so wanted to make sure.
Most of the unmanned, self service machines I have tried using my credit cards with don't work as they always do require a PIN. But some have.
Yes, I guess your debit would have to act as backup, it's a shame it charges a fee for this though.
This is why I am so excited for things like Apple Pay to be widely adopted, as it would offer a much easier solution to all of this when we travel.
I never have issues with the tube in London with my other card. The only problem I run into is at the self service kiosks at the grocery store where I have to wait for an attendant to have me sign and they're usually busy so have to wait a few minutes. It will be nice to b able to run in for a few things and get right out! Not worried about the 3% for these smaller purchases.

I do remember having issues with the unmanned ticket sales kiosk things in London, maybe it varies by type of machine, area or even CC, I don't know? But I now also have a British debit card too, so this helps hahah.
