Chase Liquid

I know there have been previous threads about this card. I kinda like the idea behind it, but prefer more traditional checking accounts, mainly since my landlord pulls money directly from the account (ACH) since checks have been unrealiable in the past (resulting in a couple of waived late fees and one actual late fee), plus the fact that there's an additional 5 day grace period with ACH transfers.

I'm looking at this Chase Liquid card because well:

1) I like Chase's banking ecosystem (website, cards,  Zelle, enhanced $0 liability protection with next day reimbursement, etc.).

2) There's plentiful branches around my residence with advanced ATM's if I need one.

3) Chase has extended banking hours and are open when other banks aren't in my area.

4) I can give one to my roomate so they can have their own account, but we can share money easier through Chase than our current setup.

Here's the questions and issues:

1) Everytime I apply for a checking account online with Chase, I get denied because of Early Warning Systems. I don't want to get laughed at by the banker after I go in and they can't give me this card. I've heard this one is harder to get than a typical prepaid card.

2) The $4.95 fee, although not a big deal at all really.

3) I've heard this card can actually overdraft, it's not mentioned in the T&C's.

4) When you activate this card/account, does it use Chase's online banking website, or does it use a "special" seperate website?

5) Adding money without using Zelle might take forever.

Re: Chase Liquid

I always understood these kind of things to be for people who can't get traditional checking accounts for whatever reason. Not following why you would want this.

$4.95 is $60 bucks/year wasted in fees.

There's a bunch of easy ways to send/receive $$ between people.

Re: Chase Liquid

If you must go with prepaid debit, go with Insight or Netspend and take advantage of the 5% APY savings account (up to 5k balance for Insight/1k for Netspend) that they come with.

$60 is pocket change really. And since I can't really get in with Chase (at least that's what their site says)...

If $60 is pocket change ... you really should have no problems with a regular checking and getting your payments in on time so you don't have to wrestle with late fees and all that hassle.

Reading another post on this site, would you not qualify for the Chase Premier Checking with no fees and a Chase Liquid Card to boot? As some one with a Military connection Chase says they will waive related account expenses. Assuming things I thought I may have known?

As stated before, I have regular checking accounts but would like to get in with Chase. I believe Early Warning Systems is preventing me from opening a Chase checking account because I cannot open one online; however, I don't owe any banks money from overdrafts or anything like that. This card, I've heard, can help you "graduate" to a Chase checking account after 6-12 months.

I'd also like to add that Chase is one of few banks around here that offer safe deposit boxes, which is also something I'd like to have.

I'm still relatively young, so I don't have $15,000 to waive the monthly fee for that account.

You wouldn't need the 15,000 to waive the fee. What he's referring to is the fact that Chase will waive service fees for servicemembers assuming you have a military affiliation. I believe he brought that up due to the USAA cards listed in your signature, thinking that you may have be military related. Of course that could be from another family member's service, but I believe that was the initial speculation.

Here is the link to Chase's military "perks".

Re: Chase Liquid

USAA and NavyFed affiliation is from stepfather who is married to my mom, but I don't live in the same household as them anymore.
