Am considering opening a Chase checking account simply to collect $300 from them. My question to anyone who has recently opened such an account, are ordering checks required? Checks aren't much of a necessity any more, but it is a "checking" account after all.
I got a new Checking account bonus from them this year. Never ordered checks.
Must keep account open for 6 months or they retract the bonus.
I got $500 for checking (w/direct deposit) and for opening a savings and parking 15k in it.
Considered the savings plan also, but hate to tie up $15K @ .01% for 6 months for $200.... maybe $500. ![]()

I am not trying to be snarky but is that even worth it since you can put 15k into an 1% savings account and interest alone makes up for more than the bonus ?

Snarky is good! Without compounding, 1% earns you $75 in 6 months while $200 is closer to 2.67% of course that doesn't include the 75 cents it actually earns at .01%. LOL.
well i was thinking more long term like say you keep that 15k in that account for 5-10 years don't think it would be quite an good deal, but short term i guess its a slightly better deal than the 1% savings accounts.

Right, there is zero incentive to keep the money in that savings account past the bonus term.
Well, off to open my new checking account. ![]()
Just to follow up. Opened the checking acct and they gave me one sheet of checks, like mentioned earlier, no mandatory purchase of checks. They even printed/stamped me out a chipped debit card on the spot and I used it to deposit $100 cash. My new online banking will share the same site as my Chase credit cards, so no new pw/login required. Whole deal was less than an hour. Got home and transferred my auto-deposit to Chase from BofA. Totally painless .... well, if I get the $300 without pain.
Basically earning $50 a month just to keep the account open til the new year. ![]()
I got the $500 for checking and savings with absolutely no pain and right on time as stated. While I won't put all my eggs in any one basket, I'm liking Chase.
