I guess next I'll transfer the total $201 out to my external Chase and zero out both my citi accounts. Will this constitute closure or should I chat and/or call after I zero them out to officially close them?
In the case of Chase and BofA, clearing out the accounts wasn't enough, I still needed to request closure.

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

I would not rely on it constituting closure. I would not risk the assessment of more maintenance fees. I doubt you'll be able to do anything with chat. You should be able, and might be able, to do it with a phone call; but as I said, in my case they forced us to visit the branch.
Agreed; for me, Chase only required a phone call, BofA required a branch visit. Hopefully Citi can do it with just a call.

I've been able to close citi/chase/boa over the phone, but don't just 0 it out and let it sit, you'll incur a fee and go negative if you have nothing that waives the fees
Thanks guys, much appreciated.

BTW @Horseshoez when I needed to close out my TD account they insisted that the only way it could be done was by visiting the branch in person. At the time I was partially disabled, and told them as much; and they said it didn't matter, I had to come in to the branch. Eventually I went in to the branch, and they wasted 30-40 minutes of my time to close out a checking account. I have always found TD to be that stupid.
Interesting, and absurdly annoying. I wonder if that was just a branch thing or if it is their standard operating procedure when it comes to account closures.

My negative experiences with TD Bank are not limited to 'branch things'. And they are too numerous to mention. I'm glad I finally dumped them as a banking source. I still have a business credit card with them, but since it reports to personal and since my aggregate revolving utilization is high at the moment I can't afford to dump the card too.
Thanks for the warning. I'll stay away.
