The American Consumer Council is a non profit orgranization which many credit unions have partnered with to provide a pathway to membership. For more on the American Consumer Council www.americanconsumercouncil.org

Virginia Credit Union (VACU.org) accepts ACC. I saw no mention of it anywhere on their website. They have a few different "Friends of Library" association thingies you can join for $10 or $15 to make yourself eligible. I started an online application for membership and on the eligibility page of the application under "member of an eligible association" the ACC was one of the choices.

 

We'll see if my membership gets approved. I've only seen a very small amount of datapoints and the ones that exist are conflicting if they're Chex Sensitive or not. I have 12 Chex inquiries in the past twelve months but only 4 of those are within the past six months. I also live in Minnesota, way out of their geographic footprint.

 

Update:Member One Federal Credit Union recently merged with VACU and I'm guessing that's where the American Consumer Council option came from. The merger was legally effective August 1, 2024 but Member One is still operating as Member One, A division of Virginia Credit Union, with their own website, their own products and applications unchanged from prior to the merger until they officially rebrand to VACU in Spring 2026.

@Royalbacon @Thank you for the information regarding VACU. I will add them to the list.  FWIW  There are three mergers involving credit unions that accept the ACC. DCU and First Technology Credit Union DCU used to accept the ACC but th option has been removed from DCU website. Great Rivers Credit Union is merging with Credit Union 1 who does not accept the ACC. I  will remove DCU and Great Rivers Credit Union from the list. The last one involves two credit unions that accept the ACC. You can find a list of credit union mergers  if you search for credit union mergers. The NCUA has a list of all mergers on theor web site.

Great River FCU is extremely local to me, I'll keep an eye on them and see if Golden 1 ends up accepting the ACC when the merger finalizes and they officially integrate their systems together.

My Virginia Credit Union (VACU) membership application was approved and I live in Minnesota so I can officially say they are not geo-fenced!

 

Member One you got under geo-fenced. I can't confirm don't know for sure if that is accurate, but they are legally merged with VACU as of August 1, 2024 and come 2026 they'll officially be rebranding everything to VACU and the Member One name will officially be a thing of the past.

@Royalbacon @I checked member one website and eligility to join. The web page shows a map of where the branches are and in what  counties. Followed by still not able join with the ACC option. I was not sure if that meant only in Virginia or  Virginia and other states. So I put them under geofenced to be safe. I will remove them on the next update.
