I received an email today from PenFed saying that direct deposits will be credited "up to 2 days" early. This suggests to me that they've moved from 1-day to 2-day early direct deposit.

@SouthJamaica Discover Bank (discover.com) 2 days early
@SouthJamaica Municipal Credit Union (MCU) NYC based credit union. They do early DD 1 day but if it payday falls on a weekend or holiday, I've gotten my DD 3-4 days early.
Slight correction to NFCU. If active duty, you can get it 2 days early.
SDCCU is 2 days early
Chase 1 day early

Tell that to my bank account.

The bank actually does not have the final control over whether the paycheck is credited early or not. Your employer DOES. If they don't consent bank policy is irrelevant.

Tell my bank account that it is early, because I've been banking with Chase for probably 20 years, and get direct deposits continually, and never once has it been available even a day early.

Been with them since wamu was bought. I get paid at SDCCU on Wednesday, Chase on Thursday, and NFCU on Friday.

Somewhat the case. A financial institution can advance the funds once they're notified of incoming. NFCU is a prime example. They issue funds on payday, but you can request early payment. Do it enough times, and the payroll has been consistent, they'll begin releasing a day early automatically. Also why they release funds 2 days early for active duty. It's a steady guaranteed deposit.
