@soxfaininfl wrote:Does anybody know how long it takes get this this form? I requested the DD214 form for my grandfather who served in the Air Force. I mailed out the request information on 1/8/20 to the National Personnel Records Center to the following address:
NPRC-WEB,
1 Archives Drive
St. Louis MO 63138
I want to open a savings account with NFCU and eventually get credit with NFCU also.
It can take a couple of months for them to get the DD214 mailed to you. You should be able to open it without the form. I highly recommend you have it and keep it as Navy Federal has a strict verification department. I have read too many horror stories where accounts were closed because member failed to have the correct documents only have the verification department freeze their accounts.
If you join, they do have awesome rates and great customer service.

@coldfusion wrote:How long it will take can depend on when your grandfather was discharged from the Air Force, if his records were destroyed in the 1973 fire it could take several months for the research to be completed. Was he discharged sometime after WWII and before about 1965?
He served in WWII, and yes he was out of the Air Force before 1965. Thank you for responding.

Okay, I guess go to a branch and try that.
If you go to the branch they may ask for the paperwork. Just call them.

I'm in the NFCU.
I called them, told them my father was in the Army during the Korean War, and they took my word for it.

Wow. I just wanted to open a savings account. I can do that over the phone or should I go to a branch?
@soxfaininfl I personally chose to go into the branch, primarily because from everything I've heard here in the forum, I wanted to begin building a personal relationship with a local NFCU banker. As it turned out, I recognized the bank rep that I worked with from another event. She helped me setup my secured nRewards card, savings and checking accounts and I was definitely very pleased with her service. I wish they had more local branches, that begin said, I definitely plan to move more of my business over to them from my primary local bank, 1st Bank of CO.

If you go into a branch, you're going to have a chance of being asked for documents. It's happened plenty of times that someone reported they were asked for documents in the branch. If you open over the phone you just need branch of service and rank and you're in.
