Does anyone think that Navy Federal has gotten "too big"?

Hi all. I currently bank with Wells Fargo, and have been considering moving my banking to Navy Federal. Everyone says that once you make the move from a big bank to a CU, you'll never go back.

My concern is that Navy Federal is actually larger by assets than a lot of banks. That makes me wonder if it's lost the "magic" that other CUs have, and if I would essentially just be moving to another "bank"?

Honestly I do think they have gotten very large and that lately the memberships have come faster then they used to.  However, there is simply no comparison between them and banks.

All checking accounts are free, no service fees.

Many accounts have ATM rebates.

Many checking accounts pay interest.

All checking accounts have free name only checks.

24/7 customer service

The car loan rates are just much better then banks and even other credit unions.

No foreign transaction fees on any of their credit cards.

They are definitely better than many other CUs and banks. Why else would so many MFers preach of them?

I keep most of my few dollars in there when not doing direct deposits for another bank bonus or something.

Almost... the Flagship checking account is $10/month if the average daily balance falls below $1500. Otherwise, I agree with everything in this post. I've worked with lots of banks and NFCU's customer service is, by far, the best of the lot.
