Free cashier checks

Hey guys, do you know any banks that offer free cashier checks besides WF? I heard from a friend that Wells Fargo gives free cashier checks. Maybe even credit union, I bank with nfcu. I'm from California. Thanks!

Re: Free cashier checks

Typically you don't see cashier's checks fee-free with banks unless you have a high-tier/premium checking account with monthly fees or meet balance thresholds that make it a perk for doing so. Most of the time the fees for them range anywhere from $5-$20 per check. Checking the WF website they charge $10 for a cashier's check so I'm assuming your friend uses them as their primary bank and has enough money parked there to have WF give them free checks as a bonus

Re: Free cashier checks

You bank with Navy Federal? I haven't requested one myself, but from their rate schedule it looks like the first two cashier's checks per day are free. Might be worth giving them a call.

You can request a cashier's check from the NFCU app, and either pickup in branch or have it mailed USPS or FedEx.    Expedited shipping is an addtional fee but it looks like there's no fee for the check itself.

+1

WF does not do this for free unless you have their higher tier accounts

i've gotten cashier checks from NFCU. no charge.

It comes out of your savings. So if the funds are not already there, it's transferred from your checking acct to your savings before being processed.

No it wouldn't be the same ; a bill pay check would likely be processed in the same way as a regular check you write from your account.

Re: Free cashier checks

When my mother worked for Great Western Bank/Washington Mutual I used to get free money orders and cashiers checks by having a joint employee account with her.

It's not a cashier's check, but a sort of draft (check) created by NFCU. When you set it up in bill pay and schedule it, it takes anywhere from 2-5 days to get to the intended party via snail mail. Intended party signs it just like they would a check and deposit it into their account. There's no fee for this service.
