When I first joined NFCU 2 years ago they wouldn't approve me for a personal loan so I took out a secured loan with them for $300. Paid that off about 3 months later then applied again for an unsecured personal loan for $12k and it was instantly approved. At the same time I applied for a credit card with them and was declined. I did the same thing, opened a secured card for $300 and made payments for 3 months then applied again. Approved for $10k. My scores were in a similar range to yours. Nothing else in my profile changed in that time frame so I assume they just really like to see you build a history with them.
Thanks- I will take a look at the secured option. Im just trying to figure out the right mix for my credit.
All- Thanks for the insight and sharing your knowledge. At least now I think i know what it is that is causing me problems and how to try and address it. Im hoping I will be posting some 700's in the next year ![]()
