I have a joint checking and savings account with my SO with Wells Fargo.
we are both equal owners of the accounts at WF with the ability to write/endorse checks, make transfers/withdrawls, ect.
we both have our own debit cards, checkbooks, mobile app logins, and all that.
seems like the only thing we can't do is remove my name from the account.
she was the primary owner and I was added a few years ago after I made a mess of my personal finances and had all my accounts closed. Now even tho she WAS the primary owner, we are now listed as co owners. She's tried to have my name removed but WF told her basically the only way was to have both of us come in a they would close the acc.
I have since opened my own accounts and very rarely, if ever use the joint account for anything anymore.
The joint accounts are her only accounts at this time.
would she be able to open an Amex HYSA in just her name and link the joint checking account to fund the new account and make ACH transfers back and forth?
Yes, it shouldn't be a problem.
We both just set up our own Amex savings accounts
I am funding from my personal WF checking
& she is funding from the joint account.
just waiting on the test deposits to show up and then we'll see what happens.
She can open an amex checking too and abandon wells. Unlike wells, amex is no fee, no min, pays 1%. No stagecoach on the debit, either.

I think we're both gonna keep the stagecoach just because they have branches and cash deposit friendly atms Everywhere in my area
we just make sure to stay over the $500 checking and $300 savings min daily balance to avoid any fees
active cash card is on my radar for this year too
I opened a wells checking mostly to get the active cash. Well, for the $325 bribe too...I didn't do their savings, no bribe. I've got 4.3% at CapOne and 5% at Fidelity. Ive got $500 tied up at wells to, I may just close it, get my $500 back.
I keep some in Huntington for cash withdrawal, sometimes deposit. I worry about having large sums in an account that has a debit card, keep them frozen in my sock drawer. I keep $100 in amex, the only unfrozen debit card I carry, in case of what, I'm not sure. I usually have $100 on me in cash anyway.
Well it seems to have worked. We both got our test deposits and verified our respective accounts.
She was able to fund hers from the joint account.
this is my first account I've had with a bank with no brick and mortar branches. And no debit card or instant transfers to checking.
So maybe I can start using my new savings account for actually saving money and not just warehousing it befor transferring to checking to spend.
