Did they actually request you pop's docs? If he served the info should be available for you to aquire in their system. 99% of the time they don't even ask though. Good luck on joining!
I agree, they are top notch. But I do have a local CU that compares really close with what NFU offers, the fact i can walk into the local Cu is plus if i need something physically taken care of. Where as NFCU is 1000's of miles away.
So if I have sons information I could possibly qualify. My son uses USAA, but I didn't sign up due to the fact that everything is done online and I don't like that. He was in the Army.

So he has never used any of his benefits? VA loans etc.? VA health benefits? Education benefits? Veteran day discounts or free meals? Discounts on a ton of stuff. I always ask is there a military discount and get 5-20% off a ton of stuff.
@KJinNC wrote:I would say you absolutely qualify, no question. My dad is 79, not a NFCU member, and was in the North Carolina Army National Guard in the 1960s, and I qualified through him. The only concern might be finding paperwork if they were to ever ask for it, but, they probably won't. Good luck!
I've been a member so long so it could be different but they asked me for my dd214 back in 2010 or 2011.

Never. He never really talked about his service growing up but when I asked the other day he just said nope, never accessed any benefits.
But he will use his senior discount for anything....
I am glad to see this thread. I see a lot about NFCU on here. My older half brother was in the army and retired after 20 years, then went in reserves. I think that qualifies me however we were never that close, grew up in different households, and he is 15 years older than me. I don't even have his phone number. I'm just wonder if there is paperwork they require that I would have to get from him. If so, I wouldn't want to bother him just for that.
My grandfather was in World War II and I do have his records. I also have an uncle who served in Korea.

I got in with my father and grandfathers honorable discharge papers when i went in branch. I have served my county for 36 years, not my country. They are great!

Both your half-brother and your grandfather would qualify you. Your uncle would not. Path of least resistance is grandfather. Give them a call. Good luck!
