NFCU stopped the backdoor means to join with the Navy League and BAE, ways to join USA Federal Credit Union that was taken over by NCFU. This stopped last year.
Now that NFCU lets vets and family members join, I would make sure you keep a copy of the paperwork showing your relationship and eligibility to join the CU. NFCU works just like government. They may not check it today, but they could some day.

Yes the "backdoor" has been closed for a while
and
my feelings are that if you lie to get in you are cheating those who shed blood for you/served our country (because obviously you didn't) and their families and you deserve to get your butt kicked out and blacklisted for life.

AMEN. That is why the "roommate " entry kinda pi$$es me off.
When I applied to join earlier this year the requirements were basically 1. Related closely to a veteran. 2. Sponsored by family member who belongs to the NFCU. 3. Roomates of current member sponsors.
I guess they want more money to play with.
