Just applied for NFCU

I signed up for the San Diego Chapter of the Navy League and applied for NFCU this morning. I applied because I heard they have great mortgage rates and I'm looking to buy a house in the next 8-12 months.

I currently bank with Capital One, is NFCU's banking service pretty good? I like having everything in one place so i might consider switching if it's quick and user friendly.

Shoot.  I wish you would have checked the threads before applying that way. Im sorry to tell you but NFCU no longer takes applications via SDNL. That started around May 12th, I believe.

Re: Just applied for NFCU

Darn, just a couple weeks too late!

Oh well, maybe they'll make an exception? The app is already in so I'll forget about it and maybe be happily surprised.

Thank you for the info Smiley Happy

Unfortunately they will not make an exception.  Your membership application will be cancelled.  Sadly you're s few weeks too late.  As an alternative, consider joining Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Very simliar to NFCU

@Anonymous  Does Penfed still use the same HP for all apps for 30 days?

Since NFCU has closed this door, take a look at PENFED. They are much more conservative than Navy Federal but their customer service is excellent.  They also have some awesome rates, better than most CU's and banks.

I currently have two credit cards ith them, a Navy League affinity Visa and a promise Visa!

PENFED is a great place to bank!

Re: Just applied for NFCU

Thanks, I'll look into it!

I mainly applied to NFCU for the mortgage rates/100% financing as I plan to buy a house in the next 6-12 months. Does PenFed have pretty good mortgage offers as well?

From what I heard, they offer the same programs that NFCU does.

They don't seem to offer one of my favorite features of NFCU which is that you can add to CDs at any time and the interest is pro-rated. I finally built up a 6-mo emergency fund in my MMSA and although I'm keeping much of it liquid, I'm trickling a portion of it into NFCU's special 2% 17-mo CD every month. (I already maxed out the 3% CD). 2 and 3% is nothing to write home about but it's still over 400% better than sitting in savings (even the MMSA) and is still relatively liquid. If I absolutely have to get the cash, I just forfeit some of the interest from the CD. Not the end of the world.

Can you renew the 3% certificate when it matures, or is limit 1 per member mean literally 1 ever?
