Ive been incredibly interested in joining NFCU since I read all of the raves and reviews throughout the forum. I am lucky enough to have a dad that served in the Army and a stepfather that is still Active Duty. My father is a veteran but not a retiree, as he only served 12 years total. In this case, I decided to join using my step fathers' status.
Well, I was asked to prove my eligibility. This wouldn't be so hard if they hadn't asked for both my mother and stepdad's marriage certificate and a copy of his pay stub proving status. My mom has no idea where the certificate is and my step dad is overseas (& even if he wasn't I don't know that he would freely email his stub even though it's just me).
So I was wondering, to make this a simpler process, can I have my 18 year old sister apply and then sponsor me? It would be easier because she has a Military issued ID since she's his dependent. That proves his status and then we can prove that we're siblings with our birth certificates showing the same mother.
Does this seem like a good idea? Can this work instead? Or do you all think they'll make a fuss because I'm not finishing it the way I started, i.e proving he is my step dad with the marriage certificate?
Thank you guys!

You do not need a family member to be a member in order to qualify. As long as they (your family member) is listed in the qualifying category, then you can apply. If you are doing it this way, you have to apply over the phone or in branch, you cannot apply online. If your family member is a member, you can apply online because you will have their access number. If I were you, I'd convince your family to join anyways, they are a great bank, very generous and always willing to help.
