Currently I have 2 personal checking accounts and 2 savings accounts, each one being at a different bank.
- Main Checking Account - this is at a small (5 location bank). I use this as the main one because I have been able to build a relationship with the bank president and get personal service. Over the last 9 years I have used this bank to purchase 6 cars and take out 5 personal loans without having to go through the formal application and approva, process.
- Secondary Checking Account - I have had this account open for more years than I can remember. I keep it open just because.
- Main Savings Account - American Airlines CU, I like being a member of this CU. They offer great interest rates on loans.
- Secondary Savings - Out of State. I also do not keep a atm card for this account, so money goes in and I really can't touch it easily.
Let's see... I have three checking accounts at Huntington Bank.
I also have a checking account at PNC bank. I automatically transfer $XXX.XX to that account from my Huntington Primary Checking twice a month, The PNC checking is where my PNC Heloc payment is drawn from every month. I transfer enough $ there so that I can also pay an additional amount towards my principal automagically every week.
And finally, I have a checking account at NFCU that I don't use at all.
It probably sounds complicated, but it works like a well-oiled machine.
Business checking & Personal checking.
Have one of each at Chase & NFCU.
Primary account is NFCU. I keep $1 in each Chase account to keep them from closing; and keep them because it's convenient when I need immediate access to a physical bank location. However, I have free accounts with them, due to veteran status, or they'd be long gone for their outrageous (imho) fees.
1. Personal brick and mortar chain - just keep enough in here to pay normal monthly expenses
2. Ally savings - anything not in investments goes here so i at least get 1% APY
3. Business brick and mortar chain - keep personal and business expenses separate
