Derrick1997,
I would not apply online. Too many people are getting their account frozen and some are getting them closed. I strongly recommend applying in a branch, mailing the app in, faxing, or emailing.
It may take a little longer, but the wait is worth it!!!!!

E-mailing it in resulted in at least four of us being frozen. People have been successful at e-mailing it in, much of the time without issue.
I'm just saying that a group of us were frozen for following the e-mail steps and we did not apply online.
Good luck with becoming a new member, OP!
So here is what happened. I went to the local branch here. The new membership people did not know how to handle it and insisted that I had to have a sponsor. Then a manager overheard and came out and said, NO we are able to do this as long as they are a member of the NLSD chapter. He asked me for all of my paperwork ( membership paper or invoice, a copy of my DL and the application). He then said that he would have to fax it in and it would be 3-5 business days before I will know something. I asked them did I need to pay anything to open my account and the manager said no because they will send everything in the mail once I am approved. I asked could I do this all in branch right now and they call and verify everything. The manager then pulled up the document online where it stated that anyone signing up through the NLSD chapter has to email/fax the application in but "DO NOT SEND THEM TO THE BRANCH". He allowed me to read it on his computer so I accepted what he said after 30 mins of debating. So now I am waiting to hear from them for approval......UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Thank you for sharing this valuable information that may help others, so they realize that going to the branch and applying in branch will not help, at least in cases of Navy League affiliation for membership. I hope it all goes well for you.

Yea and I called the corporate office too just to confirm but the guy transfered me to his manager and the manager said that some branches will do it in house but the majority of them are faxing it. He did say to make sure I keep a copy of all paperwork submitted though lol.
Thanks so much for sharing your story. So many people said going to the branch worked for them. So sorry you had to do this and didn't have a branch who would do everything for you. Please keep us posted on your progress.

You're welcome Musiclover. I definitely will. Thank God that the branch is only 6 miles from where I live lol. I had to wait about 20 minutes and as I told the gentleman on the phone, I feel like I could have done exactly what I did in the branch over email/fax. The only thing that was differnt is they faxed it from there branch instead of me faxing it from my home, lol.

Sorry to hear your trip to the branch didn't go well, but maybe bc you did go in person that will help when it comes to ID verify process .
I certainly hope so, especially with the horror stories I been reading.

Hey I got a couple of follow up questions on that point
Of those that emailed the app in, did the included the email from NLUS showing they were members of the San Diego chapter?
Did any get a written reason why their accounts were frozen?
When they had to submit additional docs, what did they submit?
Thanks!
