So here is what happened.   I went to the local branch here.  The new membership people did not know how to handle it and insisted that I had to have a sponsor.  Then a manager overheard and came out and said, NO we are able to do this as long as they are a member of the NLSD chapter.  He asked me for all of my paperwork ( membership paper or invoice, a copy of my DL and the application).  He then said that he would have to fax it in and it would be 3-5 business days before I will know something.  I asked them did I need to pay anything to open my account and the manager said no because they will send everything in the mail once I am approved.  I asked could I do this all in branch right now and they call and verify everything.   The manager then pulled up the document online where it stated that anyone signing up through the NLSD chapter has to email/fax the application in but "DO NOT SEND THEM TO THE BRANCH".   He allowed me to read it on his computer so I accepted what he said after 30 mins of debating.   So now I am waiting to hear from them for approval......UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

i guess it depends on the branch manager , i was lucky the manager told me she would fax it in too at first and i explained i had alrdy emailed an application in a week and a half before and that i was leaving on vacation in 2 days , she then proceeded to fax in my application and called to have it expedited in the system, again the whole process took over 2 hrs of waiting but i guess it was worth it since i was able to get in that day,  it would have sucked to drive 1 hr to my nearest branch and not get in, hopefully them faxing your paperwork in is more secure and they process it fast, sry it didnt work out in the branch bud but youll get in soon !

Re: NFCU. Better to sign up online or go into a branch?

UPDATE:  Ok this wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I just received my welcome email, access #,  and ck and savings #.  I am officially apart of NFCU.

I called in to give them my $5 set up and the lady was so sweet, she set up mobile banking and everything for me.   So far I am so happy.  They pulled TU to set up my account today.

Yay glad it didn't take you very long to get it cleared up! Also when you sent in all your info did they verify your ID and address and all that ?

Thank you.  Yes, they did all of that at the branch and faxed it in.  It was actually smooth.
