I just checked and I have a mixture of both types, for certain. Just make sure the routing and account numbers are good, and it should work.
I prefer USAA as my main banking hub, mostly for the ability to instantly move funds from external institutions. Navy are wonderful folks to deal with, of course.
Well, I do see what you mean. I just checked my account again and yes, I have that message as you do. I don't know if it's a recent change, or if it was always there in the small type and I simply ignored it. I would just give it a try, if the numbers are of standard format, I don't know why it wouldnt't work. I definitely have some banks there at which I have only savings accounts and transfers have routed correctly.
Alternatively, give them a call and ask. As a bank hub, that might pose a problem. FWIW, USAA has no problem pulling or pushing from/to savings only accounts.
That's a smart thing to do. I have had countless banks, and have narrowed those through time. USAA is the best of the best, imo. The banking side, anyway. The insurance side, perhaps not so much. They work more like a Hong Kong bank, which just makes everything easier and better. You'll appreciate them when you see the differences. Take good care of them, and Navy as well-- two "banks" that are without peer in the United States. Good luck.
