NFCU Checking Tansfer Question

I'm new to NFCU and still learning all of its functions. My question is can you push transfers from NFCU checking into an external savings or does the external account have to be a checking? When I try to add an external account it only gives me the option for a checking account type cant change it to savings. Also as a side question what has been your overall experience for using NFCU as a main hub for direct deposits and checking? I just switched my DD to my NFCU waiting for first paycheck to go through.

Re: NFCU Checking Tansfer Question

I just checked and I have a mixture of both types, for certain. Just make sure the routing and account numbers are good, and it should work.

I prefer USAA as my main banking hub, mostly for the ability to instantly move funds from external institutions. Navy are wonderful folks to deal with, of course.

Re: NFCU Checking Tansfer Question

Well, I do see what you mean. I just checked my account again and yes, I have that message as you do. I don't know if it's a recent change, or if it was always there in the small type and I simply ignored it. I would just give it a try, if the numbers are of standard format, I don't know why it wouldnt't work. I definitely have some banks there at which I have only savings accounts and transfers have routed correctly.

Alternatively, give them a call and ask. As a bank hub, that might pose a problem. FWIW, USAA has no problem pulling or pushing from/to savings only accounts.

Re: NFCU Checking Tansfer Question

I called and the CSR confirmed checking only because savings accounts are not meant to transaction accounts. She suggested I initiate a pull from savings instead of a push. As far as USAA I do not qualify however I am trying to change that by having my father enroll in USAA waiting for his 214 DD form to arrive as I would like to have them as my banking hub and have all of my checking and savings accounts linked.

Re: NFCU Checking Tansfer Question

That's a smart thing to do. I have had countless banks, and have narrowed those through time. USAA is the best of the best, imo. The banking side, anyway. The insurance side, perhaps not so much. They work more like a Hong Kong bank, which just makes everything easier and better. You'll appreciate them when you see the differences. Take good care of them, and Navy as well-- two "banks" that are without peer in the United States.  Good luck.
