Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

Ok. But it's going to be a few days. Work is rough this week (working for a sociopath is exhausting).
My brother is my brother and a veteran. Technically, I do qualify I just don't know how to prove it since he's currently not speaking to anyone (he goes in phases that can last years). I also don't think its unusual for some veterans.
Years ago when I was living and working in Germany and he was stationed in the south of Germany (before Afghanistan), he was more social.
I wish I had some sort of sibling documentation. I know where he was last in the Rsserves. I wonder if that would help...

Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

They signed me up. I told the rep my situation and he signed me up and said they could verify it through some database if need be. I don't know if that's what he did while I was on the phone.
Yay!! me.

Congrats, I as well trying to determine if i can join. My grandfather was in the Navy but had past away in a house fire before I was born. He was not a member of NFCU. I am trying to figure out how to prove we was in the military service. We have no documents as it was a burned in the fire.

Don't mean to hijack your post but if anyone has any ideas on how to prove I'm eligible I'm all ears.

Thanks

-Michael

Good job!  It might have been a bit of a hassle, but I promise they are worth it!  Smiley Wink  Smiley Very Happy

Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

Thank you. I would've given up...
I'll definitely start gathering material in case this question ever comes up again.
My mother's husband (step dad, I guess), was also military but I do everything that I can not to claim him.

I'm considering closing out my FedEx credit union account and moving everything over to NFCU. How they're as good as they sound.

Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

I didn't open a checking, only a savings. Was that a mistake?

I don't have a checking with them, either.  They don't seem to mind.  Smiley Wink

Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

Hey all,
Just wanted to update with info that I've gleaned. I applied and have been accepted for membership based on familial relationships (I have my brother and the guy my mom married when we were kids... some say 'step dad', I say guy who caused my mom unimaginable grief while we were forced to watch in slow motion). Anyway, I digress...

Here's additional info for those thinking of joining: GET YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW.

As a federal credit union, Navy is subject to annual audits. If your account is pulled from the year's previous batch of new accounts you need to make sure you have Proof of Eligibility. They follow the rules closely but also respect the honor of a person's word, so you might get in with verbal info but be VERY prepared for when they pull your file. You don't want your account frozen. They are diligent.

Re: NFCU Eligibility Question

Thanks for the update. I am in the process of pulling all my grandfathers history in the armed forces for my proof.
