Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

I'm on the Bandwagon.

Paid my $25 and printed the NFCU app.

I have a bunch of paperwork to do tomorrow so I'll do it then...  Time to relax, maybe I'll have a drink or two.    :]

Here is a more detailed account of what I did to join NFCU today.

I know it's human nature to want instant immediate gradification, so doing the app in the branch will get you the quickest response.

Last night I joined the Navy League, San Diego chapter. I printed the welcome email showing I was in the San Diego chapter. I also printed the screen from CapitalOne showing the charge.

I started to do the online application to join but got stuck at the point to enter the association info. Then I couldn't the darn app to print correctly. When I called NFCU's customer service, the young lady said do it in the branch, which is about 50 miles away. The Navy League-San Diego chapter is one of a few associations that civilians and vets can use to join. She also recommended taking my SSN card, 2 legal ID's, a recent utility bill, 2 recent pay stubs, and cash to fund the account. The rep also said to let the branch scan a copy of the email showing I'm a member of the San Diego chapter of the Navy League. By talking to this rep, she knew all about the Navy League and if you bring everything to the branch to makes the verification go much smoother. She also forewarned me that it could take a few hours of waiting  at the branch and the security dept may not approve a thing until next week.

I got to the NFCU branch at 11:40. I signed in and grabbed a chair  as the place was packed. At 12:30, it was my turn. I showed her the email, pointed to where it indicated I joined the SD chapter of the Navy League. She had to call their help desk to get the right override code and made a bunch of detailed notes in the initial process of the application. I answered all the verification questions she asked and all my info matched up. She didn't ask for the utility bill or my pay stubs. I opened a totally free checking and savings account. After she got the cash deposited, she set up my online banking and mobile banking. They pulled both TU and EQ during this part of the enrollment. I got emails from the credit people saying my credit was being pulled. She then got the info for my direct deposit and my debit card.

With the checking and saving accounts out of the way. she took the info for NavCheck application. I only wanted $500 because I only write 3 checks a month and I don't want a line of credit that big tied to a checking account. I had to file Ch 7 bankruptcy in 2011 and I have become very sensitive when it comes to credit. I was approved for $500. We then reviewed the credit cards. I applied for the cash rewards card as it makes more sense for me. She was promtped to call in after she entered the app. After waiting for 15 minutes, I was approved for $14,200 at 12.9%. That's not the best rate, but Im not arguing at all. I was floored I didn't have to do any recon on the credit card. They asked her a few questions about what she entered, and it was a done deal. I'm glad to have a high limit. I was only expecting like $1000 or $2500. So the long wait was definitely worth it. We went over the credit card info.  NFCU also pulled both TU and EQ again. They then pulled EQ again. I was warned they pull for each app. The nice lady that helped me said I was the first one all day to get approved for everything I applied for. She also told me lately noone has been getting the lowest rate on credit cards, so I think I came out great today!!!

I picked up some deposit enevelopes and tested my debit at the ATM and left at 1:33.

I personally think going to the branch if possibly is the best way to go. You should get a approval if you do a little prep work. I know the person before me was not approved right then because the security department had to do some verification. I hope everyone tries to join and gets approved for NFCU. I will let you all know if anything changes.

I'm so glad to be part of this forum and I truly appreciate YoureWelecome for posting the info.

Tryingtobefinanciallyfree,

They pulled TU twice, which was 689, and EQ three times, which was 699.

I had a great day today so I'm not being critical at all at the amount of pulls NFCU made today.

I'm going into the garden and dont plan on leaving the garden until 2018.

I also joined the San Diego chapter of the Navy League! Faxed in my application this past Wednesday. Called on yesterday to confirm receipt, but membership had no record of receiving it. I was advised that I could either apply over the phone or go into a branch. I opted to go into a branch and I am now a member. I received my account number and a debit card. My account will be funded through electronic funds transfer on Tuesday. Yeay!!!

Olivegirl,

Congrats! BTW when you got your debit card at the branch, did they give you a chip debit card? Mine doesn't have the chip.

Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

Guys so I want to add to the awesomeness of having Navy Federal, so after I was able to open my account using this method I applied for a CashRewards card and I was approved for $25,000!!! When the rep told me I was approved for this amount I literally almost fell off my chair LoL. Also, to add to this a few days later after applying for the Credit Card I applied for a NavCheck Line of Credit and I was approved for the full amount of $15,000!!! I literally did cartwheels all throughout my house after that approval!!! I am absolutely loving Navy Federal they are sooooo awesome!!! Smiley Happy

Just gave it a shot.  Didn't apply for any products -- just checking to see if I can join.  As stated above the real test isn't joining but whether or not those who use this method can pass the eligiblity audit if encountered.

You would be correct if you used some dishonest way in.

Be careful relying on that.  Look at former threads (not just here but on other sites as well) on those have been shut down despite being told by a Navy rep that they were eligible.  Do you have data points for those that have made it through an eligiblity audit after joining with this method?

My brother is Navy, My son is active Marines, My live-in GF for many years daughter is active Army.  Would rather not ask family for anything but if audited, I can easily use another method in.
