So Navy Federal or Navy League is no longer taking new applications?
And was it a higher up of Navy Federal, or Navy League Sandiego that emailed you that?

I believe what he's saying is that the Navy League is no longer taking applications for the San Diego chapter.
NFCU is certainly still taking applications, assuming someone otherwise qualifies. ![]()

That's the explanation that makes the most sense. From the information we have NFCU was required to continue accepting applicants that were Navy League San Diego members as a part of the merger agreements back in 2010, i.e., were asked to continue honoring USA Fed's charter by NCUA. If it's possible to have parts of that rescinded, it would certainly take considerable time and legal wrangling.
I'd bet San Diego and vicinity residents will still be accepted. Everyone that's already in should be safe, it would be difficult at best for NLUS to make a policy change retroactive and even if they did the conditions for membership in NFCU would have been satisfied at the time of application.
NFCU is probably not unhappy this way in has been shut down but with more than 6 million members the influx over the last couple of weeks is a drop in a very large bucket.

I presume if you're in you're in according to the email I can pm it. It does say somethings long the lines of higher ups from nlus not taking new apps from San Diego chapter bc their new members being eligible for navy fed in the ad office interferes with their affinity agreement with other credit unions, being PenFed is their sponsor on the website its presumed they are protecting their interest with PenFed which is understandable. I personally like PenFed products a lot more and when I had navy fed at one point never found them to be all that special, service is pretty good but from a product standpoint usually penfeds products have better rates and the service is outstanding too, especially having the lowest 10.24 rate on the siggy card would be awesome along with he others.
I'd like to see that email as well, if possible. NLUS is a good organization in any event, the least I can do is stay a member over time to support them. PenFed is my next stop when I get out of the garden.
So let me get this straight. 16+ pages wasn't enough. Calling Nfcu wasn't enough. You had to contact the navy league to bring light to this for what reason??!!! And now its shut down. What were you thinking? Ruining a good thing for potentially hundreds or even thousands of people. Couldn't you just have taken this with the grain of salt and just passed rather than risk blowing it for everyone?! Congrats dude, you win bone head of the year award.
As for this who got in, congrats. And sorry to those that won't going forward.

All NLUS has to do is stop allowing people specify preferred council during membership application. The chapter they belong to should be solely based on zip code. There is ZERO reason from people in Kansas to be associated with SD council.
I agree with that to a point, but there are sometimes you want to be in a certain chapter for personal reasons. An example is when I graduated college, I joined the chapter of my alumni association in my hometown, because I moved every few years for work and I wanted to be in a chapter where I knew people and had friends.
Also if you stationed at a certain base and you moved to another town, you want to join the chapter that covers that base. I'm not calling anyone out, I'm just saying why some folks join certain chapters.
I just pulled up my credit card statement and the fee to NL SD has been charged to my account, so I hope I'm good. If NFCU closes my account over this, so be it. I will be a little angry because I took 4 hits on my credit report and those new credit accounts are showing asctive on my CR.
I'm not angry at the guy that called the Navy League to inquire about the NFCU afillation. He's just doing what he thought is right. I just want to know when they are stopping accepting new memberships and what they are going to do with my membership. I know I put a lot of effort into joining NL and NFCU the right way. I just hope it didn't go to waste.
Life's a beach!

My app was rejected to navy league and I inquired as to why this was (out of state application) and that was the response I got. Perhaps maybe it's a good thing this happened and they closed the gap on us in order to keep people like yourself and your ethical standard out from using our military and their families to get what you want.
