Nfcu verification...having nightmares after reading stories...

NFCU froze my accounts and needs to verify me. I joined because my grandfather is a retired army colonel on a pension which makes me eligible. I think they flagged my account when I told my mom (his daughter) to open an account as well and she used my access number. My grandfather doesn't have an account at NFCU. I don't have my grandfathers DD 214 and he has dementia now so he can't get it or make any other decisions for himself legally.

When. I applied to NFCU and told them he's not a member and explained the situation about his inability to open accounts and the fact that people had taken advantage of him in the past so I didn't want him having anything to do it it directly for his protection. They assured me that was fine.

I do have his DOB, SSN, serial number, and I am certain he gets both a VA disability and a retirement annuity monthly. Is this going to be good enough?

You joining was under their guidelines and as long as you have the info you indicate you will be fine.  While I have my issues with NFCU's membership guidelines (veterans not eligible) I'm glad they they take membership seriously.  I know it's a pain in the butt to go thru, but it will all work out in the end.

You don't indicate how long your account has been open but I'm pretty sure that you're right that it was your mom joining soon after you did.  I'm willing to bet that that is one of their biggest areas of fraudulent memberships; cascading memberships after one person joins.

Right...I am totally legit, and so is my mom, the only problem I have is the closest branch is over 200 miles away, so hopefully they can accept faxes.

I opened my account two months ago, and my mom opened hers a couple of days ago.

Re: Nfcu verification...having nightmares after reading stories...

The security office is closed until tomorrow so no, I'm just worrying. Its ironic that their fraud office is basically calling me out on NOT using his personal information for my own gain....but I have morals, and I love my grandfather, so here I sit pouting in the corner until tomorrow.

It will work out.  Even if you have to drive the 200 miles membership in NFCU is worth it.

Re: Nfcu verification...having nightmares after reading stories...

Thanks....I agree, they have been amazing to work with thus far. I don't understand why he didn't use them all these years. But he's old fashioned and likes to have someone he can intimidate in person if there's a problem haha. I love him but man he is a stubborn SOB haha.
PS I agree vets should be eligible ahead of a household member.

Re: Nfcu verification...having nightmares after reading stories...

OP you are definitely eligible. So provide whatever docs that ask for when you talk to them tomorrow. Your grandfather does not have to join. My mother joined without my uncle joining. It happens ALL the time. I just made sure she provided all his info and told her to double check that it was in fact entered. Her membership approval took a few days. Once approved, I made her call back in and make sure his info was in fact listed on her account. Did you make sure they put all his info on your acct when you join? Unfortunately sometimes the CSRs are lazy when taking phone apps and although you provide the info, they don't put in on your account. This will most definitely get you flagged. It is certainly worth doing whatever is neccessary to fix the account. Navy Fed is phenomenal. Smiley Happy

Re: Nfcu verification...having nightmares after reading stories...

I practically tried to force feed them my grandfather's info when I called originally to apply. They said it was not needed over and over. Guess they told me wrong.
