Old Debt Question

Hello!! I recently have come out of a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

I've received two calls from a blocked numbers with a "file number" and threatening a lawsuit. I was curious and called them.

This is an old debt from like 15 years ago a checking account that was closed and saying I owe over $3k.

I basically told them to piss up a rope and to stop calling me. I also called my attorney JUST in case.

Should I be worried?

THANK YOU!!

Re: Old Debt Question

Well if they were discharged in bankruptcy you’re fine and if they didn’t, I’d still be willing to bet you’re fine because I bet you’re out of the SOL after 15 years, as long as you don’t reaffirm the debt or make any payments towards it.

I would send a cease-and-desist letter and if they violate that I would seek sanctions.

Re: Old Debt Question

It was discharged. What was weird is all that they kept saying is you owe and if you don't pay you will be served and sued. They didn't use any of the debt collector language and I don't even know their address because they hung up on me. I was not the nicest, to be totally honest because it made me mad.

Re: Old Debt Question

Random guy contacts me and claims I owe him for a 15yo debt without even starting by trying to show evidence he has legal standing? Yeah, he's gonna get told to go 💩 in a 🧢

Re: Old Debt Question

I basically did that which is why they hung up on me. I am more calm now...and am laughing about it. It's just sad that there's a company acting like that.
