Re: Overwhelming Debt

@Anonymous    Very well said. DW and I recall those months of $1 tv dinners.   DW and  I  still have a  fair amount of tv dinners and planned meals now  but they are no longer the $1 ones thank heavens It is now a matter of portion control and sugar control as I am slightly overwieght 220 LBs and have bordeline type 2 so I need to watch thngs.  It  is very hard to cook for two when I recall all the kids ie eating machines were at home.

Yeah cooking for two is hard! I have a medical condition that prevents me from eating TV dinners so it's all cooking from scratch here. We all pick which battles we fight andI'm glad you're continuing to takle yours! It seems there's always another mountain ahead, but the more we climb the more adept we get at it. Keep up the great work!

Re: Overwhelming Debt

I actually choose to use Straight Talk, not because I can't afford Verizon or AT&T, but because I think their prices are unnecessarily high. Also, I hate Verizon lol, but that's another story. $50 a month and I have service everywhere. I don't consider it "buckling down," just strategic spending. I have plenty of other places that money can go. Food, on the other hand, is definitely an area we spend more than necessary.

Re: Overwhelming Debt

^ agreed

the phone companies got us used to paying over $100/month but those days can be gone

i have Comcast Internet, and tied to that is my mobile plan.  $12/gb  I use WiFi everywhere and keep it under that Gig for the whole month.

Most of us have had to stop thinking ‘I can afford that’ and change to ‘Yes, but do I want to pay that?’

I got really sick of the cable bill going up every year and the mobile phone too.  It gets to a level it doesn’t need to be for sure

i hope the Op checks back in or at least is reading these posts for advice.

Re: Overwhelming Debt

^^^ please keep it friendly and respectful - what looks straightforward on the outside from the posts may involve things OP would rather not share, and regardless this forum is centered and predicated on respect for everyone, rather than the free-for-all that many sites devolve into.

Re: Overwhelming Debt

I seem to get that a lot.

I am just curious, is it possible to say anything that is even the slightest, remotest bit critical, without being chastised for trying to keep it real?

I will just delete the massive helpful post I created a thread for. I'll keep that six year saga of getting one's stuff together to myself. Thanks.

Re: Overwhelming Debt

Yup it’s very possible, it happens here all the time. Point is, the guy is down. No need to verbally kick him. All I’ll say about it other than I was only being the slightest bit critical of your tone toward the OP and I got chastised for keeping that real...

Re: Overwhelming Debt

"Honesty, without tact, is cruelty."
If you keep getting chastised for the way you say things, maybe the problem is the way you speak...? I find it funny, more like bothersome, when people hide behind statements like, "I'm just being honest," to excuse being cruel to someone. Yes, there is a way to give advice without being abrasive. That's why it's called "constructive" criticism.
