Basically, you're saying that a great percentage of this board and many others shouldn't get rewards just because you don't approve.
Tons of people use their personal cards for business purposes and it's perfectly fine. Banks have no problem with it. Call any CCC and ask them. I have. But, since you don't like it, maybe everyone should stop.
Many companies don't offer their employees corporate credit cards so they reimburse them for all their business expenses. How do you suggest they pay for all that? Run around with cash or checks and pay airlines, hotels, and other expenses that way?
Should people also forfeit all their loyalty rewards if they weren't earned for personal use? I should probably give up all the miles and hotel points that I earned because my company sent me away from home. Sure...
The way I see it, if you can't benefit from something, no one else should.

Plastiq will be shut down, it's just a matter of time before the issuers get tired of people earning money for paying their mortgage.
Plastiq earns money the same way Paypal does. They charge you a fee per transaction. And FYI, it's used for more than paying a mortgage. Again, just because you can't find a good way to use it doesn't mean others can't either.
@Anonymous wrote:Oh and PayPal usage for purchases is totally acceptable. It's PayPal Friends and Family that is also shady when used with a card. Fortunately issuers are already catching on there and have been charging CA fees for using it that way on top of the 2.9% fee PayPal charges. That's the future that awaits Plastiq.
And Plastiq for purchases is not acceptable why? Because you say so? How is it any different? At least, with Plastiq you can only pay a legitimate business unlike Paypal that allows sending money to anyone as long as people are ok with paying the fee, which doesn't even bother me.
How is paying for services through Plastiq shady? I can use Plastiq to pay many vendors that don't take CCs. Instead of opening a net 30 account with each one, I can simply pay all of them from one place.

As for AOD, how exactly is that abuse? It's a perfectly valid path to membership and I'm using my AOD card as intended - I don't do shady things with it to earn more rewards. 🤷♂️
Because it wasn't intended that way. People found a way around the membership rules -- plain and simple. I personally don't care. Good for them for being creative and sharing with others. If I wanted the card, I'd do exactly that too. That's another reason why these forums are great.
BTW, I wasn't even referring to you when I said that "you" can join AOD by making a donation to a bike club. I have no idea how you joined and it's none of my business. Feel free to replace "you" with "people" or "anyone."

Honestly all of this is personal opinion. We all have them. You have a right to yours and I have a right to mine. I did think you were referring to me specifically when you brought up AOD as an example and that is when I went on the defensive.
My personal opinion is that business expenses should always go on business cards - it's not like they're hard to get and they're designed for that use, people should not be able to pay for any loans or rent with a credit card or receive sign up bonuses for doing so (and this is what I was specifically referring to in regards to Plastiq - I don't mind people using it in other ways like utility payments or purchases (didn't even know that was a thing they offered) that don't take credit cards but I object to paying debt with credit period and that's why I include rent here too), and that CUs should not be required to have geofences because they force banks to get competitive and competition is good for everyone.
I do believe that people using Plastiq for mortgage and rent payments will start seeing them not count for SUBs, incur cash advance fees or use cash advance limits (we are already seeing many VISA cards portion them out of CA limits), or get their cards shut down. Look at all of the drama with VISA cards and Capital One cards. It's only going to get more restrictive.
Anyway, we have massively derailed the thread now. I'm going to go find something else to do.
As far as I'm aware, it's not "illegal" to use a personal CC for Business. It just isn't recommended and can be complicated, especially if you also use it for personal use since the two should be kept seperate. Many people cannot get Business credit so they are left with the next best option.
I don''t see the harm as long as both customer and Lender benefit, and they do. It's definitely not hurting any of the onlookers.
Thank you for posting all of this and sorry OP but I need someone to help me with this Plastiq too.
I wanted to use Plastiq to pay my mortgage but Capital One (my only mc at the time) supposedly wouldn't allow it. How can I pay my Mortgage with Plastiq? DH has Cap1 wemc, Disco and Amex BCE and a few Visa cards, would those work or one of my cards (below in sig)?
As you know Cap One does not cooperate with Plastiq, so you would have to use a Master Card from another lender. Visa tends to treat as a cash advance, that's why people mostly use MC. I have also heard reports that Discover doesn't work, though I've never tried them.
I've heard from others around here that Amex works on Rent.
Good Luck!

Your Citi Diamond Preferred is the ideal card. The Plastiq website says that Disco allows mortgage payments too but I don't know that I would try it. You might spook them.
Mastercard is the least problematic card type for Plastiq.

The MCs I've had zero issue with for mortgage are Citi, Navy Fed and BMO Harris. I'll have to go back and research. I think I used a US bank MC as well with Plastiq.
Used a Regions Visa for something other than mortgage. They hit me with a CA and gave me the SUB as well...weird. lol
Thank you @Anonymous and @Anonymous

Okay, hard pass on Regions then....thank you!

I figured you'd taken it personally. That's why I wanted to clear that up. And yes, we all can have different opinions on this. But, as long as lenders allow it, there's nothing shady about it.
I realize we kinda went off-topic here, but I also want to mention that getting a business card isn't for everyone. In this case, we're talking about 2 different type of business expenses. You have a person who works for a company and gets reimbursed for expenses. Then, you have someone who actually owns a business. Only the latter can apply for a business card. The person who works at XYZ Company cannot (should not) apply for a business card, so that leaves thousands -if not millions- of people who have to use their personal cards and get reimbursed by their employers.
Anyway, moving on now...
