PSA: Navy Federal Credit Union will Change ACH Pulls Dates without Warning!

February 15, 2021 and May 31 , 2021 are both holidays. President's day and Memorial day respectively.

If you try to schedule an ACH pull, from NFCU the system, on those and presumably any federal holiday, it will appear to work then change without warning. The NFCU will even give a confirmation it worked. But secretly move the date up with out warning.

Below the dates of the transactions were changed  from 02/15/2021 to 02/12/2021 and 05/31/2021 to 05/28/2021.

@kremonis    Makes sense to me as the Bank may be closed and to make sure it is done before due?!     Or am I missing something?!

@Girlzilla88

The issue is confirming the date then arbitrarily changing it after the fact, and not tell you. Most of my money is kept into a HICA (high interest checking account). Another account is used to pay bills and gets funded by the HICA the day before its needed.

So if a bill pay is scheduled for 2-15-2021, I would normally fund the bill pay account, from the HICA on 2-14-2021. If the NFCU ACH changes the date to 2-12-2021, and I don't catch it, then the account would not be funded.

Plus, in my opinion, it is just a bad user experience. Below is a screenshot of a calender that is used for date selection of another bank's bill pay system. Notice how 2-15-2021  and all other ineligible dates are slightly greyed out. Holidays like 2-15-2021 and other ineligible days are not selectable. It provides a direct visual single of what is allowed and what is not. It proactively forces you to only select eligible days. When your done you know with certainty that the ACH push or pull will execute on the day this system allowed you select.

Re: PSA: Navy Federal Credit Union will Change ACH Pulls Dates without Warning!

@kremonis     But if you know it is a holiday especially a Federal Holiday you know Banks will be likely closed.    Some banks do not care and will process your information and if it clears a day or two later and it shows late on you they do not care!!!      To me that is more Crappy.     For this I feel like it's more of our part to make sure things that are meant to be paid actually get where they are supposed to go I try for this very reason not to schedule ANYTHING on the day due in fact I try to pay it if not 2 days ahead 3-5 days ahead to make sure it is cleared in time ^^

Re: PSA: Navy Federal Credit Union will Change ACH Pulls Dates without Warning!

in my experience it is not limited to holidays, but also weekends.

I schedule my bills manually every month, but always schedule payment pull on the 1st. for example, I scheduled a cc payment for Nov 01, 2020, a Sunday. nfcu pulled the payment from my payment bank account and credited payment on Oct 30, 2020, the preceding Friday. this was not a problem for me funds wise, but there was no explicit notification from nfcu. in my experience, most other cc would have given me credit for the payment on Nov 01, but the pull would have shown up with my payment bank account on Nov 02.

it is nuances like these which keep me from switching my primary banking to nfcu. for as much as bofa gets dumped on, since 1994 they have never done me wrong. I also prefer their web interface and tools more than any other bank I've tried via churn.

Re: PSA: Navy Federal Credit Union will Change ACH Pulls Dates without Warning!

If it was any bank other than the "darling of the forum" this thread would already be full of members expressing outrage at a bank pulling money before the date authorized.

Not everyone keeps enough cash in their checking account to cover a payment that a lender pulls BEFORE the scheduled date. many people keep the majority of their money in savings, also there are people living paycheck to paycheck and if they scheduled a payment for Monday because they get paid that day having the bank withdraw the funds on Friday instead is going to cause some poor person already financially struggling to incure NSF fees.

This is an outrageous policy!

I don't currently have any credit products with Navy but this kind of behavior makes me wonder if I should avoid them

Yeah I'm not really too happy to hear about this but the reason there is no outrage from me is because I don't schedule payments in advance. I make payments when I want them to be pulled and the money is available in the account. I have no idea if any of my other banks or CUs have the same policy.

Nfcu did this to me once and it wasn't even a holiday. I honestly thought I made a mistake and put in the wrong date but I didn't. I don't schedule payments in advance anymore. I pay it on the day I want it paid. I still really like them and will always do business with them... I just don't trust scheduled payments.
