Did I miss a flavor of the month? Why would you try for a Pennsylvania State Employees credit union? I had to googlee PSECU. it looks like you can join with a $20 donation to the state parks society, but their banking accounts and CCs look pretty meh to me.
And Penfed is well documented for saying 'nothing for you' to modest income folks. I do think that is strange as they claim to target active and retired military, and those two groups aren't exactly known for sky high pay grades. And lenders should consider income in relation to where they live - an income that would have you living in a parked car in the S.F. Bay area would have you living modestly well in many other parts of the country. My mortgage is less than $500/mo. and in rural southern Arizona that gets me a comfortable home with mountain views on 10 acres, in the bay area I couldn't rent a garage to park my car for that.
Sorry to hear about the denials AJC. Its always "huge' let down to being denied. We sometimes go for other ill advised options just to cushion the blow of the denial. This credit game sometimes isn't very fair at all. Everyone won't be that blessed with the income to attract certain lenders. I feel you brother about scores not being the true secret to sucess. I still have a couple of 'dirty" reports in my possesion trying wait out the hopefully eventual fall off but, it's certainly not an easy process. We just have to keep cooling our heels aka (gardening stints), and plugging along until better options swing our way. All the best my friend.
That’s okay, AJC. I think all (or at least most) of us have had those weird moments where we get denied and then throw all caution to the wind in an attempt to secure an approval. I certainly did lol
But that’s the past. Almost 6 months in the garden for me. *insert small, unenthusiastic “yay”*

It looks like my time in this here credit world is almost, if not truely up. I keep on racking up epic fail after epic fail and i may need to step away from credit for awhile to somehow concentrate and tackling my rising debt. Ive obviously hit the wall on what lenders will lend me or approve me. Scores are meaningless without the income to back them up. Looking back i probably have like 6-10 straight hps with all rejections. Lol, this post wasnt meant to be a rant or an Avengers End Game but well just helps my mental to put it out there.
Anyhow, recently applied for membership here with PSECU and eventually approved albeit a hp on Ex. Decided to try for a CC, and even after uploading 2 paystubs, dl, and last two w2's, rejected as usual.
How bad am i? Decided to give Penfed one last try, rejoined, though was a bit more crazy to join especially with verification. Was approved for membership, another Eq pull. What the heck right, tried for Gold cc, yup, another rejection.
At least when I tried for Pl with Navy, they at least countered my proposed loan amount. Give them luv for that but i didnt want 2 pl reporting so took another useless hp to EQ. i get it for the most part. My income sucks, snd they dont like the ratio. I just wish a credit score meant something. That paying on time meant something. It is what it is. Credit game is for those with money and i understand that. Its life. Appreciate those who have read this and my many post , good or bad. Ive never professed to be perfect or an expert but i hope at least my failures could help someone, especially those lower income people. Ive learned many lessons in my 4 year rebuild journey i just hope i can really start to apply them. Thanks for reading ,AJC🧔
Wherever we stand in the money game, the things we learn and share here are (a) interesting and (b) useful. The problem with being here is that some of us -- and I put myself at or near the top of the list -- get caught up in applying for stuff we shouldn't be applying for. The potential thrill of an approval works against our rationality. We drink the MyFICO Forum koolaid.
You are truly one of the kindest and most generous people on this forum. Your warmth and humor have made you many friends here, and your communication abilities have made you a leader of the social aspect of the forum, so it is only natural for you to sometimes take a flyer on an application your gray matter tells you is not a good bet, so that you can report back on it.
I know you will find the right way to work it out in your mind, how you should handle this forum going forward.
Whatever you decide, much respect.
AJC, I can empathize with you. I have a torrid credit past and after the 2008 recession, I had a near minimum wage job for five years. I was finally able to get my stuff together with the help of family and go to nursing school. Now I have a well-paying job and I am learning to manage my credit because of folks like you here on the forums. I had to leave the forums for 7 months because the temptation to app was too great while reading about others successes. I have developed self-control and goals so I can again participate in the forums without "pulling the trigger". Hang in there, however, do what you need to do to get yourself where you want to be.
