Private student loan vs regular personal loan options?

Hi,

Without wasting time getting into how/why I am not getting more than 10k/year from FAFSA... I've exhausted that for now.

I'm pretty confused and overwhelmed by all my options looking at possible lenders in search of more money especially because 2020 seems to have catalyzed a bunch of tech-savvy companies/apps. But it seems like people have terrible experiences with student loans? Not sure about personal? Help. Suggestions on "the best" lenders/a breakdown of what's what.

My FICO is in the early 700s -- not too much debt. No missed payments, nothing in collections, no derogatory/negative marks... I just don't have "enough" of credit history, apparently. Can get a qualified cosigner if needed for better rates...

Re: Private student loan vs regular personal loan options?

People have terrible experiences with all products when they don't abide by the terms and understand what they are getting into.

I originally got my private loans through Sallie Mae which became Navient, rates were near 10% and that's why I hate them. I didn't really understand it at the time, but I never had issues with their processing because I set it up to auto pay and tadah, no issues.

If you have a cosigner, that should be a good way to go - I know Discover also offers student loans too. It looks like Credible also does private loans and not just refis anymore, that would be a good starting point to "shotgun" it out and see rates from a few lenders at once.

Another bank to consider for Private Student Loans / Refi is Citizens Bank ..... Haven't checked them out recently but had some decent offers and products on that, last I checked... Cosigner might be needed though.....

^ That's who I used for my refis, wasn't aware they do it for original loans as well but I've had no issues at all and they've had the better rates in my experience. They should show up on Credible.
