I've been using quicken for decades now. The stock list is really long - most all are things I wouldn't buy now / went out of business, etc. There's loads of accounts that I have closed a long time ago. The check register for 1 bank I've been with for over 10 years is very long.
It takes a couple seconds to do things. and that adds up.
Do you just start new? I know I will never need to look up trades in an account from Brown & Co from the 1990s... but it's there if I wanted to : )
What version are you using? Im using 2021 home and business, I have over 30 personal and biz accounts plus loans, credit cards, ect and it runs smoothly. Version R37.37 Build 27.1.37.37 I run it on a windows 10, MSI gaming laptop. You could do a back up file and do a fresh clean install. Then add in the active accounts you use and try it. At least then, you can always reinstall the back up file if that doesnt help.

I'm on the Mac version but I switched from M$ Money back in 2009, so a TON of history and a TON of closed accounts, sold positions etc - I've actually noticed the performance improving with each update
I have no experience with MAC, so cannot help with that. 1 thing about quicken I really dislike is with each update it seems they jack up at least 1 of the FI's I have an account with so it wont do an update on that account. As of right now, quicken has jacked up Penfed. been over a week that I have to manually put in transactions because it wont download them.
