It does make me curious but they won't tell me why. The phone rep I spoke to was quite annoyed that I even called. She just kept repeating that I need to look at the denial message I was sent. The denial message is pretty vague so who really knows.

I'm not losing sleep over this one. I had heard good things so I thought I would apply.

I'm trying to remember if they checked ChexSystems as well.  Is there anything bad on that report as far as you know?  What did they say in the message?

Re: SDFCU

My Chex is good as far as I know. I've never had anything negative happen in that realm.

Their auto-denial message:

Thank you for your application and for your patience. Unfortunately, we are unable to open an account for you using our online channel. Our online application process incorporates both identity verification and an identity authentication component which results in a numerical score that becomes the basis for the auto-decision aspect of the process.

The decision regarding whether an account can be opened is directly dependent on where an applicant’s score falls within a pre-established risk-based matrix. This matrix includes ranges of acceptable versus non-acceptable scores, and those scores are reflective of the weight of each factor being evaluated in the verification and authentication processes along with their associated risk.

When an application is auto-decision as a “decline,” the score fell below our minimum acceptable threshold. When that happens, we are not privy to the specifics regarding what information could not be verified or authenticated due to the proprietary nature of the software being used for that verification/authentication process. In those instances, whenever it is possible, the applicant needs to apply in person at one of our branches. We do thank you for your interest in State Department Federal Credit Union.

I'm positive I answered their verfication questions correctly.

Re: SDFCU

Strange.  Hard to make a lot of sense from that.  If going into a branch isn't an option, I'd just move on as there are a lot of other nice CUs.

Re: SDFCU

Going into a branch is not an option so I think I will just move on. Both application attempts had that same message and I agree that it doesn't really make sense, which is why I called for clarification.

I have other CU accounts, just wanted to check these guys out as well Smiley Happy

Re: SDFCU

Just wait for the letter and then appeal the denial if you want to.
