Hey guys, I live in the bay area and for whatever reason Safe CU is making it so hard just to get membership approved. Its probably the bank that I know need a utility bill to get approved... however I live with my parents and they want either water, electric, or gas bill. Is there any other utility bill that they accept? Thanks 😊
what perks does this cu offer?
Tell them your situation and ask if they will accept something an alternate like a car bill.

What a credit union will accept as proof of address will vary by credit union and probably also by the credit union employee who happens to be processing your application. You'll want to reach out to Safe CU to see if there are any alternatives they'll accept in your situation.
I'd also keep in mind that, if proof of address was the disclosed reason why your membership application was rejected, it may or may not be the actual "deal breaker". Just like with credit apps, the denial reason they're providing you is a reason, but it may not be the reason.

I thought their geofence is the Sacramento area not bay area? or are you using the aerospace museum backdoor?

Yeah they used to be only Sac but decided to open up more through out NorCal which opened up to the east bay. I put that I live in Alameda County. When I applied I never received any email, nobody didnt call me, etc. I was very surprised... a few months later, I decided to check into the app and they said they need to verify my identity which is with the DL, SSN Card, and Utility bill. I recently opened up a credit union in SoCal and they never even asked for that info, I guess cause everything was already in the form. Even then I filled out safe cu form asking the same thing... idk why they're making it so hard but yeah I heard a lot of stories about them I think I'ma just not get the card. Same with nusenda...

Interesting. Well, hope they will expand to south bay soon.

Yea as someone who joined Nusenda but was rejected by SAFE multiple times, I would say their rotators are not worth it. If you are in the cashback game, credit union rotators tend to have more problems (changes to reward structures, mis-categorizing merchants) over time than big bank rotators like Discover and CFF. Also I think cards like Cash+ and BofA CCR are better long term keepers because they allow you to pick the category.
BTW SAFE has the highest loan rates of all the CUs I have apped/joined, without having correspondingly high deposit rates. Combine that with their uptight membership requirements (need clean Chex, no Aerospace backdoor outside norcal except for that one person on MF - and there is always the one person) = just not worth it.
