Re: Nice Nusenda CU Mobile Wallet Promo Oct-Nov

The good news: Nusenda added back the missing bonus cash for a restaurant and brick and mortar store.  The amounts do not show up in the individual transactions at ScorecardRewards but the total cash rewards number does reflect the adjustment.

The very bad news: Nusenda declined to count Zappos.com as online retail because it does not fall under a qualifying code. When asked for a list of qualifying codes -

"Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a list of merchant codes that are accepted for the quarter as we are not provided this. We can only check if a merchant does qualify for the bonus rewards."

I think Nusenda swung from an overly lax coding previously - where every physical store counted as retail, for example - to an overly restrictive coding that credits the 5% only for something that is obviously in-category, i.e. Amazon for online purchases.

This is bad for people who optimize cash back, but probably extends the card's longevity as a 5% rotator.

For Q1 I am just gonna use it for gas...there is no way they miscode Exxon right?  Right???

Reached out to them via secure mail.  The issue is still ongoing, with an outside resolution date of 12/1.  Regardless, Costco.com purchases will not qualify for online retail because Costco codes as warehouse.

I've always stayed away from using nusenda for 'retail', I was too fearful of getting 1% when I could at least get 3%.  For the first time this year, I tried a test purchase at Dollar Tree as I mentioned upstream and it did not work.  Confirming my 'stay away' from the "retail" cat with nusenda plan.  Bummer.

At least they kept the categories unchanged for 2024.  This rotator should last since Nusenda has a geofence like VantageWest and SAFE CU (and unlike Affinity or Abound.)

I'm not sure how tight that fence is at Nusenda. I made a one time contribution to a wildlife foundation and that got me in. The closest I've ever been to setting foot in New Mexico was watching Better Call Saul. I wish VantageWest and SAFE were as easy.

LOL I think how tight the geofence is depends whether the representative handling the membership app is a stickler for rules.  The company line is NM Wildlife method only works for NM residents.

LOL!  The whole time I was watching Breaking Bad, I couldn't help but think of nusenda CU.  Good one CC!

I too got in with the Wildlife Foundation donation but, from what I have read, it is no longer an option.  It's worth reaching out to them, customer service was super friendly and they were the ones that gave me the Wildlife Foundation tip.  I remember I had to call to wrap up the application and one of the first questions was your address/state and when I said California, the first thing the rep said was "Oh, you must be calling for the credit card, that's the only time we get out of state applicants".  lol

Re: Nice Nusenda CU Mobile Wallet Promo Oct-Nov

Just got an email from Nusenda promoting the Q3 categories, with actual merchant types listed (but no codes.)  Biggest surprise for me is Staples/Office Depot possibly counting under education.

"The gas category includes:

  • Service stations
  • Automated fuel dispenser

The education category includes purchases at:

  • Elementary and secondary schools
  • Colleges, universities, professional schools, and junior colleges
  • Correspondence schools
  • Business and secretarial schools
  • Vocational and trade schools
  • Schools and educational services not elsewhere classified
  • Stationery, office, and school supply stores

The hotel and airfare categories include:

  • All airlines
  • All hotels"
