Schwab Removes Hard Pulls For New Checking & Brokerage Customers

I know this is a bit of them fixing a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place...but glad to see it happening!

Looks like they are both removing pulls, and no longer pulling in the first place.

I've got some cards. Some are pretty, some are ugly. Some are more useful than others.

I can confirm that this is working. Yesterday I opened a checking and brokerage account. I have a freeze on all bureaus.

Have they allowed you to transfer money into the account yet?

There is still credit check clause in Mandatory pre-dispute arbitration section which you will have to check and proceed:

Please read carefully the Schwab Bank Privacy Policy, the Schwab Bank Application Online Account Terms, the Schwab Bank Account Agreement and the Schwab Bank Deposit Account Pricing Guide). Together these documents are referred to as the "Account Agreement" and will govern Schwab Bank's bank account relationship with you.
By clicking or touching the box in the highlighted panel below, you:

  • Affirm that you have received and read the Schwab Bank Deposit Account Agreement ("Deposit Account Agreement") and understand that it is a legally binding agreement and the equivalent of a written contract, and that your use of your Schwab Bank account will be governed by the terms of the Deposit Account Agreement.
  • Indicate that you understand there are fees associated with establishing, maintaining and engaging in transactions with the Account, as described in the Schwab Bank Deposit Account Pricing Guide.
  • Understand that by checking the box below, and clicking "Submit" at the end of this Account Setup process, you will be bound by the terms of the Deposit Account Agreement in the same manner as if you had signed a paper copy of the Application for the Account with an ink pen.
  • Understand that Schwab Bank will initiate an inquiry with a Consumer Reporting Agency (e.g. "credit check") in order to evaluate your High Yield Investor Checking application.
  • Understand that Schwab Bank does not use marital status when evaluating your credit.
  • Acknowledge that your Deposit Account Agreement with Schwab Bank contains a pre-dispute arbitration clause.

Although they only pulled on my 3rd account opening, it looks like that they did remove that HP.

Re: Schwab Removes Hard Pulls For New Checking & Brokerage Customers

Not sure. I pulled my chexsystems report before applying (it had zero data, and a score of 9999), but I haven't bothered to pull it after opening with Schwab.

In super scary news, I also pulled my EWS report.... and dear lord, US Bank and Cap1 give EWS far too much information about your spending and balances. Peace out, US Bank. I'll never use you again.
