Target Red Debit Card

I applied about 2 weeks ago after they linked to my checking account the Red Debit card was approved. To my pleasant surprise I received a $40.00 coupon with my new Target 🎯 Red card today! I just finished my shopping at the local Target and am very happy. In 6 months I will apply for the Target credit card. Love Target.

Nice work with the debit card. It's nice that it still has the perks too. Target closed our local store a few years back and I'm still bitter about it to this day lol. Good luck to you when you go for the credit card!

Great Target $40.00 coupon (I love coupons), good luck when applying for the Target credit card. That's how I feel about my coupons from Macy's!Smiley Wink

Re: Target Red Debit Card

Yeah I just applied for it a week or so ago too and didn't have any idea about the $40 either. I want to get rid of my $800 Target credit card and replace it with the debit card. Had to call them on Saturday because they declined me for ID verification and the rep just texted a code to my phone and approved it. She made a point to tell me about the $40 coupon being in there.

Re: Target Red Debit Card

I got the debit card once upon a time because I knew I wouldn't be able to get their credit card (or any credit card) and I've been very happy with it.

Is there some reason to go for the credit card after you have the debit?

Yes I plan to wait 6-7 months then app for the Target credit card as I don't have any Synchrony cards. That would be my first. I love the savings at Target 🎯 plus the extra 5% off with the debit card or cc works for me.

Right, but I think the point of the question was that you already have all the target benefits with the debit card, so maybe going for a different credit card (Synchrony if that is desired) would give you more for your app.

^ Exactly - I was thinking if you have the benefits of the debit, maybe save the app for a card that will give you benefits that would complement other parts of your spend (unless the credit card gives additional benefits I missed, which I'd also be curious about)

Re: Target Red Debit Card

I thought the Target credit cards are TD Bank, not Synchrony. I've had the Target debit card for probably a decade now (if not longer) and I still toy with the idea of changing over to the credit card. The benefits are exactly the same, however I feel the CC is more secure. I still worry that if in the wrong hands, that could drain my bank account. Alternatively, I've been thinking of switching it to a lesser used checking account to minimize the risk.

The Target CC is backed by TD Bank, not Synchrony.
