Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

Hi all,

So I started building my credit in August. I just have one credit card from Discover with a $1000 credit limit.

I was wondering if it would be an okay idea to apply for the iPhone upgrade program. I don’t have a FICO score yet because my account is too new. Does anyone know if I should wait a few months until I get a score or try applying now? I believe it’s a hard pull. Anyone been in a similar experience. I saw someone post that they got approved and they also have limited credit history.

Re: Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

I think you should wait until your score pops up.  I wouldn't apply for anything without having a score

is the Discover Secured?

Re: Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

You're basically applying for a personal loan with Citizens Bank. Might be a bit tough with limited credit.

Re: Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

I'd wait for your discover to get a CLI if you go this route....about 3+ months if it goes right...theres a good chance youll be able to snag your first CLI...

Im curious.. do you actually have a FICO score reporting yet?

What other cards do you have... If you already have a fruit device.. you could try the SP to see if they will give you a starter card....(soft pull)  They have been entertaining offers on both the new and experienced sides of the credit spectrum...

Yeah right now i wouldn't try for an IUP until youve had the discover for a bit.... at least untill the disco has been reporting for a few months... and (if you dont already) have a FICO score...

Re: Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

Well I was stubborn and didn’t listen but wanted to provide a DP for anyone who is in a similar situation

I got approved! I am shocked. My file is very thin. As in I only have one month of good payments to Discover. I only have a vantage score and no FICO score that is able to populate just yet. Wondering what citizen loans criteria is. Maybe as long as you don’t have anything derogatory, you’re in.

Re: Thin file applying for iPhone upgrade program

I don’t have a FICO score currently. At least not one I can access. Discover provides them for free but every time I attempt to check it gives me an error message and says I don’t have one yet. Also checked with the Experian app which also says I don’t have one yet.

I have a vantage score that I check on credit karma but I’ve read very few lenders use vantage. That’s currently at 694.
