Trying to join NFCU

After reading about NFCU on here we are going to try and open accounts with them with future goals of one of their CCs. My step brother served and my husbands grandfather served. When I call in will I need to send in my brothers docs? Is it something I need to get from him before calling? I know what branch and what he was in.
My husbands grandfather is deceased. What would we need to provide of his if we went this route?

I will edit to add we have a cousin who is a member and she gave me her info to sponsor me but it is saying she needs to be a next of kin. 😥

I’m not sure how easy/difficult membership via step sibling is, but should be pretty straightforward with a grandparent.

If you know what branch, approximate service dates, rank, etc., they can likely verify eligibility using public records on the phone within about 15 minutes.

I just joined via my maternal grandfather, who is deceased.

I ended up not needing to provide proof since they were able to locate him by name/branch served/war.  But, the rep told me I would have needed my birth certificate, my mom's birth certificate (this connects me to him), and then his DD214, which could be obtained from Veteran's Affairs.  So provided you're telling the truth (I'm sure you are) getting the necessary paperwork should be pretty easy.  Call and talk to a rep to get started to see if you need to do all of that work.

Not sure on the in-laws. However, your DH is eligible. He can become a member, then he can sponor you to become a member.

Have DH call in to join. Should be a simple process.

Agree with the last two posts, you might have to do the "steps" method if you're not a direct descendant.

But as long as you have access to the paper trail, you should be fine.

They are very flexable.   I had 3 ways to get in.    They took the easiest for them which was my father and I was in in about 30 seconds.

I myself qualified but it was very hard to explain so they just took my father as the basis an poof.
