So the USBAR is on my bucket list but unfortunately I'm outside of their footprint and a deposit account is required to be eligible
I tried to open a savings account online with them and was greeted with a message that they don't offer accounts in my area
can you bypass this
i entered my zip code and it turns out they will let me open a 7mo cd at 4.5%
I was thinking maybe I could open the cd online and when it comes time for it to mature, call and open a checking or savings account over the phone for them to deposit the principle + intrest into rather than rolling it over.
anyone have any success working around their geofence??
An existing US Bank relationship is no longer required to apply for Altitude Reserve. Before they removed this requirement, the work around was to apply for one of their other cards first, and then wait at least 6 months before applying for the Reserve.
Well that makes it much easier
no work around required
The USBAR is still a few years away for me.
but maybe I'll try for the cash+ sometime next year.

From what I've seen, once you get approved for one card from them, you can open a checking/savings account if you are outside their normal area.

US Bank often doles out small starting limits on your first card with them. If you want a good starting limit for Reserve, it's wise to apply for one of their other cards first so they can get comfortable with your ability to manage a credit account. Cash+ is a good option for that purpose since the 5% reward categories are capped at $2000 per quarter anyway.
