Using Freedom to buy money orders?

Not too sure if this is in the right forum to post but hopefully I can still get help. Still a noob to the whole points game so I was wondering if I could get some help on this. I've researched it but all I've been seeing are posts from 2013. So we're moving into a new place and the housing agent is asking for $4000 money order. $2100 for security deposit. $1900 for the first months rent. I want to make use of the Freedom's bonus category at supermarket's (Safeway). Is it possible to buy gift cards that allow you to create a PIN for that amount and use it to buy money orders? I was just hoping to get some current info on this before I risk losing that much money for something I can even use. Thanks everyone.

If I understand you correct....I know you can use Freedom to buy gift cards at the store (and online). I have to do this until Costco takes Visa. Now I also know that in order to get a money order you must pay with cash. At least that is how it is in TX.

Re: Using Freedom to buy money orders?

Welcome to the myFICO forums. I do not think you will be able to use a CC at Safeway (gorcery store) to get a money order. If you do it will likely be considered a cash advance and you will receive no points and/or bonus.

This topic gets close to a topic that violates the TOS for this site so proceed with caution, it certainly seems your question is well intentioned.

There are a few sites that allow you to use a credit card to make payments via check to various people including landlord. The landlord wants cash in hand and taking a credit card would cost him/you more money. Try plastiq as a site and see if they might work for you.

Others will certainly chime in, but I am very doubtful that you find a place to give you a money order for a credit card.

Re: Using Freedom to buy money orders?

While I'm not sure on the specifics of this purchase at Safeway, I have to agree with the others above.  Not very familiar with this myself, I attempted to buy a MO and pay a bill at WalMart.  While I could pay my bill with a CC, a MO could only be purchased with cash or a debit card.  I would expect this to be standard for most places.
