Veridian Credit Union

Does anyone have / had any personal experience with them? I am thinking about opening a 2 year CD with at four percent. They also have a two percent flat rate credit rewards card as well. They are not geofenced. Doctor of Credit says  Chex Systems None in a May of 2025 post

Re: Veridian Credit Union

They're not a bad CU, but nothing special. Opening a membership and card weren't difficult from out of state. I'm not a fan of the 2% card fine print though:
◂Cash back rate of 2% requires inclusion in Loyalty Program by enrolling in eDocs and maintaining either direct deposit of your net payroll income into a Veridian account, or making a minimum of 10 qualifying checking account transactions per month. “Net payroll income” means the majority of the borrower’s payroll income after taxes and pre-tax deductions. Borrowers will receive standard cash back rate of 1.5% if they fail to meet Loyalty Program qualifications during the month.

Re: Veridian Credit Union

Open all 50 states and online/mobile. CD rates good. Visa Credit Card Signature 2% everything. Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota for physical locations. Appears to be modern and state of the art. Also Money Pass and Privileged Status (pirmary IA coverage) ATMs no fees.

Do they pull ChexSystems and hard credit pull for membership?

Re: Veridian Credit Union

@heyryan  Thanks for the information on the card. I had not read the fine print yet. I already have a 2% cash back card with SDFCU. I am happy with them and the card. I do not need another card at the moment.

@MeowingTheCat  Per an older post on Doctor of Credit says they do. Per a recent post within the last year implies they do not. It says Chex Systems: None

The link below is to that post. The other thing they tell is to have Trans Union unfrozen I presume it is a soft pull.https://www.veridiancu.org/rates/account-rates/certificates-of-deposit

To clarify the CD rates. Here are there CD rates

Re: Veridian Credit Union

They gave me a low rate Platinum VISA $2000 2 years post discharge and approved me for a car loan that I didn't use. Can't get an increase on the card because they say I have too many new accounts which is probably true.

I'm out of state and I remember qualifying for membership by being a Dwolla member whatever that was.

The times that I have applied for a credit line increase, I have taken a HP way before I got the chance to hit submit on the application!!

Re: Veridian Credit Union

I am a member and live in Minnesota in their geographic footprint. They do NOT pull Chexsystems. Also it is a soft pull for membership. No hard pull at all.

See my post here https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Approvals/Veridian-Credit-Union-Visa-Signature-Approved...

They were like an early investor in Dwolla or something, but Dwolla doesn't allow personal accounts anymore so they have a different way for out of state people to qualify for membership. To be honest, I don't entirely know what Dwolla is/was nor do I really care.

There isn't too much else to say about them. Pretty typical run of the mill credit union. Opening CD's online is quick and easy and a cinch. They do NOT participate in shared branching. Have never had to contact customer service so can't speak to that. Applying for credit card was quick & easy and I linked my older post above so you can check that out if you wish.

Update:After reading my old credit card approval post, I remember they seem to use your Transunion vantage score for credit card approval rather than your real Transunion score, which is extremely bizarre but seeing as how Vantage Scores are typically way higher I certainly can't complain, haha

Re: Veridian Credit Union

This credit union based out of Iowa recently expanded into Minnesota which is where I live. I decided to join and found out that there was no Chex pull for membership or a checking account and only a SP on TU when you join. (They are actually open to anyone in the US with a $5 donation if you want to join outside of their geographic footprint. Their website makes it clear they're not geo-fenced and open to anyone regardless of location)

I opened some of their CD's since they had some extremely attractive CD rates going on and also noticed they offer a 2% cashback Visa Signature if you meet their requirements of estatements with either direct deposit or 10 checking account transactions per month (Otherwise it's 1.5% cash back.) I emailed my paystubs then she called me and gave me the option of either having the cash back automatically deposited once per year in my savings or checking, or the on demand option where you can cash it out whenever you want (Cashback expires in 5 years) She didn't mention if there was a minimum redemption requirement or not and I didn't ask, I went with the automatic once per year option. And then she said she'll email me a form to electronically sign and that I am all set!

They pulled TransUnion and it said my score was 740 on the emailed documents to esign on the "Your Credit Score and the Price You Pay for Credit" form. I have no idea which specific score they used though because I checked my May 1, 2025 TU Fico 8 score before applying and it was 686. I noticed searching some old MyFico threads here and also here saying they use the TU Vantage 3.0 score. My Vantage 3.0 score for TU on Credit Karma says 738 so that lines up with the score I got from Veridian after applying. I'm not complaing one bit though, because my Vantage score is way higher then my "real" credit score haha!

Re: Veridian Credit Union

I called Veridian on Monday, I asked about the Trans Union pull for membership it is a soft pull. The customer service agent did not know about Chex Systems so I explained. I thought it might be  possibly that they did not pull Chex Systems. Thanks @Royalbacon  for confirming they do not pull Chex.

@ptatohed I am looking for a 2 year Jumbo CD at the best rate possible. Currently that is 4 percent.  I  have a couple of back ups just in case. The CD that has the funds in it does not mature till the end of the month. Brokerage CD's are at 3.85% for 2 years
