Happy Monday morning to all!
I want to open up a NFCU account. My Father was a veteran and passed away this March. Someone told me I could join because of him even though he is deceased. So does anyone know for sure if that qualifies me? If so what information so I need when I call to set up an account? Also how much am I required to fund the account with to open one? Thank you all so very much!!
Yes, you qualify. You should have a copy of his DD214, but they usually won't ask for proof. I think the minimum to open is $5.
Call them and explain. They will tell you what you need and more than likely will sign you up for an account on the spot. You may want to see about getting your Dad's DD214 or something along those lines in case they ever verify his status, but you should be eligible as the offspring of a veteran.
Thank you both! I just now went to archives.gov to order his DF214. I went through the process to order but it says real big at the top of the screen that due to covid The National Personnel Records Center is closed except for emergencies. So I'm not sure that I'll end up getting them. But we shall see! Thank you again! I can't wait!

It's OK, you've got time. They usually don't verify but its good to have it in case they do.
I went ahead and called and got all set up. Was a very nice and easy proccess. First time opening a bank account and enjoyed doing so lol.. They were excelent to deal with.
Happy and excited!
Welcome to the forums Bigmoe!!
You're definitely eligible. I was eligible due to my grandfather's service in WW11.
The main things I remember them asking for were branch of service, type of discharge(honorable or medical) and then just regular info I believe. Its been awhile since I joined.
You will not regret joining NFCU, they have been nothing but spectacular to me and many others here! Let us know how it went!!
