I signed up for an account because of the $400 free money. Everything went smoothly. Tried to activate the debit card and set up online banking but couldn't because I opened the account online. Now I have to go into a branch to show my ID for verification. What a hassle. Never had to do this for a checking account before. So I checked their reviews and most of them are quite negative, especially their history of opening fraudulent accounts in customer's names and frauding their auto customers. Now I'm second guessing myself. Does anyone bank with Fifth Third currently? What's your experience? Would you recommend them?
Transfers were kinda slow it took maybe 4 days for the money to hit after sending it to them. I did it earlier this year for the $325 bonus. I transferred the money from Wells Fargo which coded the same as a direct deposit. Fifth third paid me the bonus faster than any bank I ever got a bonus from! Literally one day after they received my transfer from Wells Fargo they paid me the bonus the very next day! I loved it and will do it again next year.
I did a sub too. They paid right away. Didn't take the debit card. I got a friendly welcome call from the branch mgr. Noticed they have later hours than most banks. If I needed a new bank for in person banking, id try them. I didnt, so I closed it.

5th 3rd only exists for their bonuses that pay very quick, close it out and start the timer on the 13 months until you can open it again
unless you are a local business owner and you perhaps want to run some business/commerical loans through them, 0 reason to keep it open IMO

How long do you keep it open after receiving the sub payment into the account?
how long do you have to, no limit, close it as soon as the bonus posts and everything clears
to make EWS/5th third happy if you want to do business with them again, 6 months

How did you withdraw all of the funds, ATM or transfer? Or just got the cash when you closed it at the branch? I don't want to throw up any red flags. 🚩
I ached the money out, then closed over phone. If you're going in person, one stop shopping.
I transferred the money to a 3rd party bank that I had. But with a couple banks I pulled the money back to the original bank that initiated the bonus. I had no problems doing it this way and I've done it a couple times when I first started doing bank bonuses.
Took the sub x4 with our family, paid up quickly. Half got the $400, the other got the $300 since they changed it up a week before their stated deadline. Will be keeping the account open due to actual intended use. Not sure about kids account yet.
They are very local to us, and will work well across the other half dozen bank accounts we keep open. There are so many welcome offer options available, this one won't kill future opportunity to keep it open. I'm booked through 2026 with potential offers, not local to us. I have a rule that where I keep my money, I want to be able to physically walk into that brick and mortor facility. For everything else, that's an easy pump then dump - then gone.
