What service(s) does E*TRADE use to validate social security numbers?

I just signed up for E*TRADE, and they sent me a message that they were having trouble validating my SSN. It was no big deal, I just uploaded a photo and that was all they needed.

But I'm kind of obsessive about making sure that no BS information is sitting in any consumer information bureau out there. And I had an identity issue in the past, which I thought I resolved with another bureau. So I would like to know:

What services does E*TRADE use to validate social security numbers?

Examples could be the big 3 credit bureaus, ChexSystems, LexisNexis, etc, or things I've never heard of. I asked E*TRADE as well, they might be getting back to me.

Haha well, so far I've found out that

  • their customer service is very patient with me;
  • they sometimes use DTEC (an Equifax product) for certain types of verification (the customer service rep brought this up themselves when I asked what they might use);
  • they use ChexSystems (the ones who messed up my details in the past, then fixed it) for some banking stuff (duh), but the rep wasn't sure whether they might have used it for SSN verification in this case (normal E*TRADE brokerage account, not banking);
  • I asked them to inquire for me, and they said they would. I asked them to give me a case number, and they said they couldn't unless it was a complaint. But they also said that there is such a thing as a "positive complaint" which is a good thing or a "neutral complaint," lol. So they created a "neutral complaint" for me with an 8-digit case number so I can follow up.

Hopefully my E*TRADE account gets fixed tomorrow; I'll let you know.

Presumably it will take longer for them to find the source of the flag (I'm still guessing they'll never tell me). I made my case to them, which is that Chex deleted some inaccurate information about me in the past so I want to make sure that they didn't mess it up again or some downstream party didn't retain the wrong information. My credit reports are fine and normal. I just applied for a new bank and a new prepaid card last month (bank used Chex), so at least some FIs don't hate me.

Coindicentally, I should be getting a new Chex report in the mail tomorrow. Maybe the wrong info returned? We shall see.
