No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I also use personal capital. It doesn't provide you with a credit score but it does a good job of keeping track of your finances. You can add bank accounts, credit cards, loans, etc. and it tells you how much your net worth is and how much debt you owe. Great application to have. They have web and mobile apps.
I use MINT.
What do I like / dislike?
I like that it's free and it give me a quick overview.
I dislike that it's not so easy to use. I get it's hard to sometimes add accouts, but it's mostly becaue it's tough to know what name to search for, sometimes with some credit cards the actual name that gets you to add the account isn't obvious. And I have added accounts more than once so it's double, and i was scared to delete the duplicate least both get deleted, so I just marked MINT to ignore the duplicate accounts but still keep them.
BUT today, I got a scare that may permanently dim my view of MINT.
They reported one of my checking accounts as having $1.46 balance, while it should have been over $1,300. I have 4 checking accounts, and kept lookng at the total cash and thinking, I should have more, but I had paid an extra 1,500 to pay off a couple of credit cards, so maybe that was why I had less total cash than I thought, but I kept looking arround for why it wasn't what I expected.
Then I see the one checking account and it's $1.46, what the F, I log into the bank directly and the balance is over $1,300. No idea why mint is reporting the wrong number, it said it updated an hour ago. I have seen sometimes with CC if they aren't correctly updating then the last time they updated is a little flaky, like it says 6 hours ago when it's really 7 days ago. But my balance has never been that low, so how did it come up with that number??
So MINT while free isn't totally to be trusted.
Remember Mint is a "peek in" 3rd party site. Some transactions that are pending sometimes take 1-2 business days to show on Mint. I have been using the site for 9 years and have the same issues sometimes. The goal is to keep us aware and responsible with finances so for the price of FREE I'll take the glitches here and there. I was tempted to join a $8-$10 a month site earlier this year but after research and blogs I found out that no site can guarantee that no connection type issues won't arise. Whenever the issue arises like you had I log into my bank site and go whew! no problem here. The value from the budgeting and financial tools has been priceless. Keep up with focusing on those finances because most people don't.

How many of you use Mint? What do you like/dislike?
Mint while free is not even close to as good as quicken. Both are run by Intuit.

Was using it until April. I liked the convenience but the way it automatically set up specific bill reminders and budget amount alerts was annoying. Would have preferred the option to set those myself from the start not have to go in and delete or change them. After the last update it was unusable. Wouldnt update a few accounts, lot of error messages, placed purchases in the wrong categories. Stopped using anything until I recently found Personal Capital Finance. Definitely prefer it.I completely forgot about the wrong category problem.
No matter how many times I told it my car payment was NOT alcohol and bars, it continued to categorize it as such. Plus having to go in and categorize hundreds of dollars of UNKNOWN transactions was tedious.
Car can be alcohol/bars...but may require you to get SR-22 insurance and/or some jail time.
+1 to Sarge just for making me laugh. ![]()
Honestly, I think I'm done with Mint. It's only sporadically pulling accurately from Chase, it stopped pulling altogether from Bluebird, all of my debits in August are reporting as credits, it's chastising me for spending $500 on utilities in September ($120 for 3 cell phones, $163 for home phone, wifi, cable, the balance to electric-I'm paying on an old debt there). AND now it's double posting random credits and debits just for fun.
Google has a nice spreadsheet thats interactive for budgeting, I can plan out the month in advance, keep track of transactions. It takes more work from my end, but it's accurate.
mint works great for me and I would be financially lost without it. The only account I have that is finicky on there is a synchrony card that I have to re log in with my password a lot to get updated data (like it doesn't save the authorization) but this is only on the mobile app, the web site has been bulletproof for me. The unsual spending alerts and low balance and budgets and bill reminders are life savers for me. I use it more than my banks website.
