I recently opened a new credit card, about 2 months ago.
They required me to take a pic of the front and back of my drivers license.
Then they wanted me to do a current pic of me . I did that
Then they insisted on a 5 second video of my face from the front and side.
All this while the customer service rep was on the phone with me. He insisted so he could guide me.
I really found it all very strange. This is all very new to me.
So when I did all they requested then he said I was approved for the new card.
This all caught me off guard so I did it, but would I do it again? I am not sure but I don't think so
Thanks
Mark
I would just move on. I was attempting to chase down an adverised be 3% account. The BoM is wanting pictures of my DL then some 1990s flair selfie. Missouri, systemic racism, inequality. Its how this nation state was founded. There are churches scattered throughout the south who wants a picture not only of you but any children, blood or natural. I worked as a human services specialist who did an array of things to give clients that emergency leg up. One of the clients wanted to enroll in an Oklahoma Teen Challenge program that asked for his picture. Lets just say this guys application somehow "got lost" and he missed a deadline. I wasn't going to prompt him to reapply because I saw through the application and the purpose of the picture. We found him an alternative placement.
I for one am happy to give a selfie or video to prove my identity. By them requiring it would make me feel more comfortable tbh about their security measures. I believe that information on the dark web will be got one way or another if someone wants it bad enough but this seems like it would be an extra layer of security imho.
Sure, I'd do selfie.
Then after getting denied, I can blame selfie. It's a rather elegenat solution to "but so-and-so got approved with worse scores and less money"
I would not upload a selfie or video of myself to open a bank account.

I know right?
I actually did the selfie thing with SYNCB recently and it was no different than providing proof of identity (e.g. DL or passport info) to any other financial institution that requested it, whether online or in-person <shruggies>

Congrats on your selfie!
@cr101 wrote:They want not only a pic of my license (which I'm okay with), but a selfie of me holding it. At another bank, they want a video of me. This personally makes me uncomfortable from a security standpoint. Plus, it's a bank account. I'm giving them my money and they're going to make money off of it. It's not like I'm asking for credit. I know that they're just trying to ensure that I'm not opening an account in someone else's name, but I think that this is overkill.
Would you open an account like this if you could get the same type of benefits at another bank without providing a selfie or a video?
I did it when applying to AOD. But after reading this thread it occurs to me that it was a stupid thing to ask for and I was stupid to go along with it.
So now that I've thought it through, the answer is no I wouldn't
It's a bank. Regulated at the federal and state level. In this ever-increasing digital and online world and with cybercrimes on the rise, they need to know that you are who you say you are.
