Hi and welcome to the forums.

Which CRA is it reporting on and is there a DoFD listed?

You may need to go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp and pull a free copy of all your reports from each CRA.  These will give you much more detail

than a 3rd party site.

See if the reports tell you a date of removal.

I would say dispute it with the CRAs as being too old but, I want to see how it is reporting first.

Re: 1998 Collection still reporting in 2010...need help!

Thanks for the link....much more info.

The only one it is showing up on is EXUIFAX

Date reported                     4/2010

Date assigned                   2/2005

Creditor Classification:    cable/cellular

Amount owed:                    $136

Date of 1st Delinquency:  01/2005      (which is strange since it is a 1998 account????)

Balance Date:                     04/2010

Last late payment date:     N/A

Status Date:                         04/2010

Status                                   D- unpaid

This is what it says...does  not show a removal date.

thanks!

Have you paid anything on this account? Do you have any old reports that might help your cause? Seems like the CA may have kept re-aging the account!

When you say it a 1998 account.....Are you saying that's when you opened the account with Cox Cable?

Yes I think your right about the re-aging....not sure what I can do about it.

I havent paid anything on it yet.

I have heard that paying it could keep it on my report longer. ( im not sure... Im new to this)

thanks!

Yea dont pay anything on it. what state do you live in? If its outside of SOL then i would suggest writing up a DV letter and if they delete your done, and if they validate you need to send a PFD letter!

No, paying it will not make it stay longer.  It will fall off 7 - 7.5 years from the DoFD.

I would send the CA a DV.   I would also contact the OC and find out if they still have anything on this.
