2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

I have tried to figue this out through previous posts, but I'm still confused. I have 2 CAs reporting a debt for the same OC, but the amounts are different. I know the debt is mine, but I need to know who to pay and how to get the other removed. I understand that two CAs can report the same OC, but I thought only one could report the balance -- the other needed to show a balance due of 0.

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

Sorry, I edited it out. Both accounts had the Oc listed as Warrenton Fast Lane.

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if I should DV them both or what. I'm worried that the account that hasn't updated recently will and my score will go down as a result.

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

They look to be the same collection and the same account. Your two screen grabs are from EQ and EX, judging by the language within the fields. The DOFD is roughly the same. Same OC. There is a difference within the org. amount by $35, and that could be a bounced check fee of some sort, since this refers to a check. I think what you have is a CA that reported the debt (Alternative) and last updated in 2009. At some point they sold it to Northeast, or they returned it to the OC who sold it to Northeast and Northeast added interest bringing the amount owed to about $300, as supported by the 2012 updated date.

Alternative should have deleted, but didn't. I'd dispute Alternative on the grounds they don't own or collect on the debt and that you are dealing with a new CA, who isn't reporting on EX (I assume). For Northeast, send a DV. If they verify and you agree, then send a PFD.

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

What are the rules on disputing? I disputed a medical acct with TU that came back verified and now I'm disputing a pd medical acct with TU usiong the HIPPA process. ARS is only reporting to TU. Should I still dispute or do I run the risk of being marked for excessive disputed? Could I sent a DV to ARS instead?

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

Their is no requirement that a debt collector who no longer has collection authority must delete their prior reporting of collection on the debt.

Many will do so, but it is not required.  Failure to update the balance to $0 upon termination of their collection authority would be disputable, but would not mandate deletion.

They can simply correct by updating the balance.

Would you happen to have an email for Northeast Legal Group?

Re: 2 CAs reporting same OC, but different amounts

Robert is right, they can both post, but not both with a balance so it is reporting wrongly.
