A collection

On my credit report listed under credit accounts an old Scana Energy account is listed. It is showing as an actual revolving account. This is a collection but why is it showing under revolving accounts?
Should I DV , dispute or PFD it?
It is bringing my score down because it looks as if i have defaulted on an revolving account.
Thanks

My sister has that same thing - a negative collection shown under revolving or installment accounts - not sure why, I'm hoping it means it's hurting less.

As far as what to do - Is it your debt? How old is this account? Is it past SOL? When is it due to fall of your reports?

Yes, it is my account. It is from 9/2003 for 269.00. Do you think a PFD would help get it off my account?

Re: A collection

If it hasn't been updated on your credit reports recently, and you aren't trying to purchase a car or house anytime soon, I would leave it alone and let it fall off in 2010.

If it's been updating regularly since 2003, then it's still hurting your score. If you feel morally obligated to pay, and are SURE it is beyond your SOL, I would DV via CMRRR. If everything comes back okay, offer PFD until they agree to do so.

Good luck!

Judging by the name, this doesn't look like a collection (CA) but rather a charge-off (CO). You cannot DV an OC.

It can be listed in the accounts section. But not listed as a revoling account though. Does it say "revolving" in the account type? It should say "installment" or "utility".

Is this account yours? If so, all you can do is go the PFD route.

It is dragging your scores, but it is doing so as a charge-off. If you got the data from EQ, then that would explain why the score is lower as EQ tends to frown on that more than the other two, IMO anyway.

Re: A collection

I had one like this.  CA was AFNI, for a old Cingular phone bill.  It was a collection on TU and EX but on EQ it was a revolving open account w/ 120 days past due : /

I sent a dispute letter to EQ saying this was a paid collection but I feel that was a mistake cause I sent a GW letter to AFNI a couple of days later after reading these boards and they sent in a request to have the collection removed from all CRAs.  I dunno whats gonna happen to EQ now lol.

I dont know that much so far but if it were me i'd send a dispute to the CRA to get it changed to the proper account then send in your PFD and GW letters.
