I recently received a letter from AFNI on an old sprint collections account. On the letter they are discounting about 50% of the debt owed and it says that if I pay that amount that the "account will be closed and marked as settled in full with AFNI Inc and Sprint".
The offer is tempting, however I only have about 40% of the original amount owed.
My question is would I be able to reply with a counter offer where I would offer them 40% of the original amount and would I be able to also ask for PFD. Also, when they say "settled in full", does that mean they will delete it after paying or will it remain there?
Thanks in advance for your expertise!
No don't do that. Try to get the money together and pay sprint in full. I just recently did a negotiation with sprint to delete my old collection with them that was $6342 they will most likely agree to pfd. They agreed with me on live chat and i took screenshots and saved the transcript. If you paid the CA That doesn't satisfy sprint only the CA. so u would still be owing sprint they can assign the remaining amount to another CA.

Also settled in full doesn't mean it will be deleted. They will just update it as "paid" on your credit reports and the damage will still be there. It has to fully be deleted for the damage to drop completely

On the letter that AFNI sent me it says "it will be settled with AFNI and Sprint". Does that mean they will take the money and Sprint will still try to collect the rest?
Also, if i deal directly with sprint, would they accept less than the amount owed?
Thanks for your help!
To be honest sprint will want it in full. The CA is saying is saying it will be settled with them and sprint because they are collecting for sprint so once they get the money they will stop bothering you but they won't delete it. Sprint will not delete it for less they would want the full amount but its how you wanna go about it. If you wanna settle it for less and get it over with just remember the damage will remain there because it will still be on your report only updated to "Settled" If you decide to wait it out get the full balance owed then pay sprint directly after getting one of the live reps to agree to delete it then the damage would be gone and off ur report.

This is flat out wrong. If the OP makes a deal to settle for less with the CA that has collection authority, the matter is settled. OC can't come back and demand more after that or send any remaining debt to another CA.
@Anonymous You can counter offer to the CA at 40%, and ask them to delete. They may agree, they may counter-offer or they may decline. Most likely they would settle for the amount but not agree to delete. In that case your account would go to something like "Settled for less than amount owed." It would sting for the next couple of years and then drop off.
If he pays the CA for less it still doesn't satisfy sprint fully enough for them to delete it. The Damage will still remain on his credit report even for "settled for less" the whole point is to get it deleted. And the only way is to pay sprint in full. Then they will terminate the CA's authority to collect and they will have to delete it from his report.
